Job PurposeThe Coding Manager will provide leadership to the Coding Department including supervision of staff, reviewing of processes, and providing recommendations for improvement of operations. Goal is to meet or exceed national coding KPI benchmarks and client specific KPI’s. Maintain or exceed team productivity and quality standards.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize and direct overall operations of the Coding Department as it relates to billing, payer and client policies and protocolsOversee the coding of all inpatient surgeries to ensure accuracy and timeliness with our co-sourceEnsure that team stays current with billing/coding regulationsEnsure all federal and state audits are completed timely, such as Medicare prepayment, CERT and RAC auditsEnsure work queues are worked timely and accuratelyActively engage with and manage coding team, including routine productivity and quality reviewsProvide management and supervisory duties related to educating and training staff, evaluating staff performance and monitoring productivityInterview, hire, train, evaluate, and develop subordinate staff, where applicableDevelop and maintain quality control programs, including in-depth and individual performance reviewsOrient new hires and provide in-services and training, continuing education, and development related to those functional areas of responsibilityOther duties as assignedUse, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standardsUnderstand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all timesLimit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned dutiesQualifications2+ years’ experience managing a coding departmentCurrent AHIMA or AAPC coding certification required (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CPC-H, etc.)Experience working with an offshore coding team preferredExperience with EPIC and 3M preferred Proficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteStrong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organizationStrong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysesHigh level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented Excellent written and verbal communication skills requiredGracious and welcoming personality for customer service interactionWorking ConditionsOccasional travel to client locationsMust possess a smart-phone or electronic device capable of downloading applications, for multifactor authentication and security purposesPhysical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.Med-Metrix will not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information (including family medical history), political affiliation, military service, veteran status, other non-merit based factors, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law.
