POSITION SUMMARY:Performs clerical, organizational and communication functions. Provides personal, and basic care to patients under the direct supervision of a RN. Assist in maintaining a clean, safe patient environment and performs job responsibilities in a safe and timely manner. The clinical assistant also performs functions such as related to transporting patients, equipment, specimens and other items within the hospital, along with entering orders and answering telephones. EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE: Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Nursing Assistant I course approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Current listing with the NC Division of Facility Services Registry as a Nursing Assistant I. Incumbent will be required to attain BCLS certification within 3 months of hire; recertification required annually. Proficient in keyboard operations and basic computer applications. Ability to operate standard office machines. Preferred: Above and knowledge of medical terminology and hospital operations upon hire. ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Must demonstrate an ability to apply age-appropriate principles of communication and clinical practice relevant to the age groups of patients assigned to the unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to age specific issues and data reflective of the patients status. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care of the following age groups: Neonate, Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric. Must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Supervises: . Reports To: Receives clinical oversight and guidance from staff RNs specific to patient care area and order entry. Reports to Unit Manager and shift supervisors for patient care, operational and administrative issues.
