About the Role

Picture starting your shift by walking the molding floor, listening for the hum of healthy machinery. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you’ll be the technician who keeps our injection presses and every piece of auxiliary gear safe, reliable, and performing at its best. Your day blends preventative care with quick, smart fixes that keep production moving.

A Day in the Life

  • Begin with scheduled preventative maintenance on molding machines and auxiliary equipment to keep everything in peak, safe condition.
  • Jump in to diagnose and resolve mechanical or electrical issues—working independently or teaming up with fellow techs when needed.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for problems that can’t be closed in-house.
  • Verify machine safety systems and guarding are fully functional across all equipment.
  • Tackle facility maintenance tasks that extend beyond the scope of the facilities maintenance team.
  • Record all maintenance actions and findings in the MRO module (including IQMS/MRO entries) to keep a clear, accurate history.
  • Recommend parts and improvements; upon approval, place orders to repair or enhance machinery.
  • Help relocate equipment on the floor; set, level, and connect new machines for a smooth start-up.
  • Maintain and service all supporting auxiliary systems.
  • Keep work areas spotless and organized—5S standards are the norm, not the exception.
  • Apply lean manufacturing tools to drive continuous improvement and support company goals.
  • Follow Sussex IM’s environmental policies, minimizing impact while doing the job right.
  • Act safely at all times, watch out for teammates, and report any unsafe condition immediately.
  • Pitch in on other related tasks as assigned.

Education & Credentials

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Maintenance Apprenticeship Program or equivalent work experience.

Experience Level

  • Entry level up to 5 years in a manufacturing maintenance/repair setting.

What You Bring

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Comfort operating industrial machinery and related technical equipment.
  • Strong analytical troubleshooting skills and sound judgment.
  • Basic computer proficiency: email, spreadsheets, and IQMS/MRO usage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Hands-on abilities: welding, safe forklift operation, and confident use of power hand tools.
  • Keen attention to detail and quality.
  • Positive, courteous communication; supports a pleasant work environment and participates in interpersonal skills training when available.
