Temporary Summer Internship
June 29, 2026 – July 31, 2026
The Arizona Secretary of State's Office is seeking motivated students and recent graduates to participate in the Initiative Internship Program within the Elections Division. This five-week internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public service, election administration, and state government operations.
Interns will assist with the initiative review process leading up to the 2026 election by reviewing initiative petition sheets, researching statutory requirements, and supporting compliance efforts. Participants will observe government operations, attend trainings, and contribute to ensuring the integrity and accuracy of Arizona's election processes.
Review initiative petition sheets for completeness and compliance with statutory requirements
Assist with initiative review and election administration processes
Research Arizona statutes, policies, and initiative requirements
Attend trainings related to election administration and state government operations
Accurately document findings and maintain detailed records
Work collaboratively with Elections Division staff on assigned projects
Follow established procedures while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
Adapt to changing priorities and assignments as needed
Currently enrolled in or graduated from a university, community college, technical school, or high school
Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 required
Interest in public service, government, law, public policy, or public administration preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to think critically and follow detailed instructions
Basic computer and office software proficiency
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to remain objective, professional, and nonpartisan
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Ability to perform repetitive review and administrative tasks
Must be available full-time from June 29, 2026 through July 31, 2026
Must be available to work weekends, overtime, and the July 4th holiday if needed
No part-time schedules available
Demonstrates an interest in public service and government operations
Highly detail-oriented and accurate
Strong work ethic with the ability to follow through on assignments
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Adaptable and willing to learn in a fast-paced environment
Maintains professionalism and neutrality while supporting election-related processes
