Job Description and Duties

Are you interested in a meaningful and impactful career? Would you like to contribute to protecting people and the environment and accelerating a statewide transition to sustainable pest management? The Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) could be the place for you!

Under close supervision, the Information Technology Technician provides support on various IT initiatives and departmental accessibility and web-based requests. Applies web accessibility standards and compliance. Implements and upholds new accessibility standards, requirements, and best practices. Keeps program branch staff informed of new accessibility and web policies and posting procedures through trainings and user guides. Participates in various accessibility and web content-based tools; develops and troubleshoots issues within these tools and assists in the implementation efforts alongside the Information Technology Supervisor II.

Performs monitoring, maintenance, and support of Departmental Intranet and Extranet websites; provides direct support of the web-based needs of the Department, including document conversions, creation, and accessibility remediation; responds to technical questions; under close supervision, solves a wide array of accessibility and web-based problems and reports problems and solutions to the Information Technology Supervisor II. Tools and platforms used to support departmental sites may include, but are not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, CommonLook, NVDA, WordPress, and Microsoft SharePoint.

Working Conditions

  • Performance of these duties requires the use of computers, infrastructure hardware, networks, databases, electronic mail (both internal and external), voicemail, and the Internet.
  • May occasionally work evening or weekend hours in response to system outages/recovery, maintenance, or upgrade activities.
  • Occasional statewide travel on short notice may be required to support regional office locations. Travel may require overnight stays, driving, and flying.
  • Performance of the duties indicated for this position occasionally require the ability to lift and transport equipment up to 25lbs.

Note: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Beginning July 1st, 2026, it is anticipated this position will be office-centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with web development and accessibility standards
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office suite

  • Experience with WordPress or other Content Management Systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies is a plus
