Information Technology Technician I

The Court is conducting an open recruitment to fill an Information Systems Technician I position. This role operates under the direction of the Information Technology Infrastructure Manager and is crucial for providing IT support aligned with contemporary ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) standards.

The Information Systems Technician I will deliver technical support and training to end-users on enterprise, client/server, and desktop computer systems and networks. The incumbent will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and software, providing help desk support, and ensuring optimal system performance.

Examples of Duties

Duties that may be assigned include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • End-User Support: Provide first-line technical assistance for hardware, software, and network-related issues. Resolve level one incidents and requests, escalating complex issues as necessary.

  • Training and Documentation: Conduct training sessions and create instructional materials to enhance user proficiency in computer systems. Ensure all documentation is aligned with ITIL best practices.

  • System Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor systems and infrastructure for performance, availability, and security. Generate and analyze reports to proactively manage system health.

  • Customer Interaction: Maintain professional communication with end-users, ensuring issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner. Follow up to confirm issue resolution and gather feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT staff and Operations, including network and systems administrators, to coordinate the resolution of technical issues. Installation of proprietary software and hardware.

  • Miscellaneous: Other duties as assigned, such as assist in the implementation of IT projects and initiatives as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of ITIL principles, particularly in incident management, service request management, and problem management. They should be proficient in:

  • IT Systems Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of personal computer hardware, software, LAN/WAN infrastructures, and operating systems (e.g., Windows 10/11 OS).

  • Technical Communication: Ability to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical users and document procedures according to ITIL guidelines.

  • Problem Solving: Skilled in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, with the ability to assess system failures and implement corrective actions.

  • Training and Support: Experience in delivering end-user training and support, with a focus on improving user experience and system utilization.

  • Adaptability: Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and adapt to changing work environments.

Minimum/Desirable Qualifications

Education: High school diploma, GED, or high school proficiency certificate. A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field is desirable. Relevant work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: 1-2 years of job-related experience with demonstrated competence in IT support.

Possession of a valid California driver's license or the ability to provide suitable transportation approved by the Court.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Conditions of Employment:

Successful completion of fingerprint and a criminal record background check is required prior to appointment and is a condition of employment.

Because the Court operates in multiple branches, the employee may be required to travel to other court locations, and possession of a valid California driver's license is therefore required. All employees of the court who operate a vehicle on court business must certify they possess a valid California Driver's License and required levels of automobile insurance.

Convictions:

Felony and misdemeanor convictions MAY BE disqualifying for employment with the court. The court will assess the nature and gravity of the offense, the time that has elapsed since the offense was committed, and the nature of the job duties to be performed.

Employment Eligibility:

In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all persons hired after November 6, 1986, are required to present to the Court, at the time of appointment, original documents which show satisfactory proof of: 1.) identity and 2.) U.S. Citizenship or a legal authorization to work in the United States.
