Job Description
POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Information Services Team Leader serves as the functional head of Information Services for the Cleveland Health Sciences Library (CHSL), providing strategic leadership, coordination, and subject-matter expertise in patron-facing library services. The position leads and mentors the Information Services team within a distributed leadership model; coordinates high-level instruction, reference, educational support, and evidence synthesis services; and actively contributes to service delivery for the Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, and Nursing. As an expert in information services, the Team Leader guides the development and expansion of service areas--including scholarly communications, data management, AI and emerging technologies, and research impact--and is consulted on library-wide and university-wide initiatives and policy discussions. This role directly supports CHSLs mission to advance education, research, and clinical practice through innovative, responsive, and collaborative information services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as head of the Information Services department for the Cleveland Health Sciences Library, providing strategic leadership, supervision, and coordination for a team of librarians delivering instruction, reference, educational support, and evidence synthesis services. Lead and advance the Distributed Leadership Working Groups model, empowering librarians to assume leadership roles in specialized service areas, lead internal professional development initiatives, monitor emerging trends, and coordinate projects across functional boundaries. Serve as a primary stakeholder for one Distributed Leadership Working Group. Establish team priorities and strategic initiatives to ensure equitable, high-impact services across the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dental Medicine. Oversee assessment and reporting activities, including the collection, analysis, and use of service metrics to inform planning, resource allocation, and continuous improvement. Provide expert input into departmental budget planning and resource needs and serve as a consultative resource for library-wide initiatives and policy discussions related to information services. (30%)
- Serve as an expert practitioner in information services by leading and delivering advanced instruction, reference, and educational support. Partner with faculty in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dental Medicine to align library services with curricular objectives, embed information literacy and evidence-based practice competencies into academic programs, and support continuing education initiatives. Design and deliver high-level instructional programming grounded in adult learning theory through classroom, virtual, and workshop formats. Develop scalable learning objects, including tutorials, videos, and research guides, to support asynchronous learning. Implement and evaluate assessment strategies to measure instructional effectiveness and learner outcomes, contributing to continuous improvement of educational services. (25%)
- Provide expert leadership in evidence synthesis and research support services, including the development and expansion of systematic review, scoping review, and meta-analysis services. Serve as a librarian collaborator and co-author on faculty-led research projects, contributing methodological expertise and scholarly output. Advise researchers across the research lifecycle, from protocol development and registration to publication strategy and research impact assessment. Offer advanced consultation in literature-based research methods, evidence-based practice, citation management, critical appraisal, scholarly metrics, and the responsible application of AI and emerging technologies. Serve as a resource to library leadership on evolving research practices and tools. (25%)
- Serve as the primary department liaison and ambassador for the Cleveland Health Sciences Library to the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Dental Medicine. Develop and lead outreach and engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with faculty, learners, and administrators and increase awareness of library services and expertise. Represent the library on institutional committees, initiatives, and collaborative projects as appropriate, contributing to the library¿s visibility and strategic role within the academic health sciences community. (15%)

CONTACTS
Department: Frequent daily contact with all departmental staff to maintain workflow, supervise Information Services staff, works with other department heads to coordinate services, under the direction of the Director of the CHSL.
University: Moderate contact with other university departments in the Health Sciences schools and the other Campus Libraries, leading or participating in committees, as a liaison to the department in curricular activities, and to exchange information.
External: Occasionally participate in local, regional, and national organizations to maintain a network of information professionals which enhances our services and to stay abreast of trends and changes in the profession. Collaborate occasionally with members of the OhioLINK consortia and other academic campus libraries.
Students: Frequent communication with students to support their education and research needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Supervises Information Services librarians and division librarian assistant(s)
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 6 years of appropriate experience may be required
Education: Masters degree in Library Science required. Second Masters or advanced degree preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Experience teaching Evidence-Based Practice concepts to clinicians or health sciences students.
- Experience with or understanding of evidence synthesis review types of literature based research.
- Familiarity with citation management tools (EndNote, Zotero, review software (Covidence, Rayyan), and organizational/ content creation tools like Springshare, Adobe, etc.
- Knowledge of Generative AI tools in health sciences, etc.
- Interest in attaining Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) membership and/or contributing to the field of Health Sciences Librarianship.
- Strong organizational, leadership, emotional intelligence (EQ), and interpersonal skills
- Able to interact well with various constituencies, such as institutional leaders, faculty, staff, students, and occasionally members of the public using virtual technologies or face to face.
- Ability to interact and work collaboratively across functions, levels, and departments toward shared objectives; and ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical and administrative staff and to integrate resources on a timely and organized basis.

General office environment. The employee will perform repetitive motion using computer mouse and keyboard to type.
Hybrid Eligibility
This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
