Information Architect – Intranet Transformation

Location: New York, NY
Schedule: Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite per Week (Wednesday Required)
Employment Type: Contract

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Information Architect to support a large-scale global intranet transformation initiative. This role will help redesign and unify the digital employee experience by creating an intuitive, scalable, and user-centered information architecture across a global organization.

The ideal candidate will combine expertise in information architecture, taxonomy development, content strategy, and user experience with strong stakeholder engagement skills. This individual will work closely with business leaders, content owners, UX professionals, and technical teams to understand organizational needs and translate them into a modern, easy-to-navigate intranet experience.

Key Responsibilities

Information Architecture & Content Strategy

  • Design and maintain the information architecture for a global intranet platform
  • Develop navigation structures, site maps, content taxonomies, metadata schemas, and naming conventions
  • Organize complex content into intuitive, user-friendly structures that improve findability and usability
  • Ensure content architecture is scalable, accessible, and aligned with governance standards

Stakeholder Engagement & Business Analysis

  • Partner with stakeholders across multiple business functions to gather requirements and understand user needs
  • Conduct interviews, workshops, surveys, and discovery sessions to collect insights and feedback
  • Analyze employee behavior, usage trends, and survey data to inform architecture decisions
  • Present recommendations and architecture strategies to stakeholders at all levels of the organization

User Experience & Optimization

  • Create wireframes, navigation models, and content frameworks to guide implementation
  • Conduct usability testing and incorporate findings into architecture improvements
  • Collaborate with UX, content, and development teams to refine the employee experience
  • Support AI-enabled initiatives including content tagging, search optimization, content recommendations, and user experience enhancements

Documentation & Governance

  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, standards, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with organizational governance, accessibility, and content management standards
  • Support change management and adoption efforts by clearly communicating architecture decisions and benefits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Information Architecture, Human-Computer Interaction, Library Science, UX, Digital Experience, or a related field
  • 3–5+ years of experience in Information Architecture, Content Strategy, Knowledge Management, Digital Experience, or related disciplines
  • Experience supporting intranet, digital workplace, enterprise content management, or content transformation initiatives
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Taxonomy Development
    • Metadata Management
    • Content Strategy
    • Information Architecture Principles
    • User-Centered Design
  • Experience creating:
    • Site Maps
    • Navigation Models
    • Wireframes
    • User Flows
    • Content Taxonomies
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to analyze complex information and transform it into clear, intuitive user experiences

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environments
  • Familiarity with Power BI, survey analysis tools, and employee experience platforms
  • Experience leveraging AI tools for content analysis, tagging, search optimization, or user experience improvements
  • Experience within professional services, financial services, consulting, or other large enterprise environments
  • Experience working with global teams and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Background in agile project environments
