I. Job Summary
Performs advanced work in the installation of aluminum stadium seating and various other products at state agencies, public schools, cities, and other agencies and institutions. Work involves overseeing the work of inmates to ensure efficient installation of various products and operations; and supervising the work of inmates. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
II. Essential Functions
A. Oversees inmates in the performance of assigned tasks; plans schedules of operations; and ensures accountability for equipment, tools, and parts.
B. Monitors installation operations and ensures conformance to quality standards; prepares and maintains reports regarding operations and makes recommendations on procedural changes; and makes sales calls to current and potential customers.
C. Arranges for transportation and housing of assigned inmates from units and local jails near project sites; ensures available funds for inmate meals; coordinates delivery and pick-up of products; and maintains evaluations and records of training activities and proficiencies.
D. Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; and assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.

III. Minimum Qualifications
A. Education, Experience, and Training
Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
Eighteen months full-time, wage-earning chain link or ornamental fence installation experience or three years full-time, wage-earning production or manufacturing experience. Thirty semester hours form a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) Or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for each year of experience on a year for year basis for a maximum substitution of two years.
Experience in the supervision of inmates preferred.
Experience in a metal fabrication operation preferred.
Welding certification obtained by completing thirty semester hours may substitute for one year of the required experience.
Must have or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with the following restrictions: E (no manual transmission equipped CMV) or L (no air brake equipped CMV) through Texas Department of Criminal Justice within 120 days of the date of employment.
Must maintain valid license(s) and certifications for continued employment in position.
Selected applicants without the required certification(s) must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that will remain in effect only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply with this contingency statement will result in separation from employment. Credential Contingency Agreements will not be extended or renewed as a result of an employees separation from employment or acceptance of another position.
B. Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory levels of production.
Knowledge of metal fabrication methods and procedures preferred.
Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations preferred.
Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Skill in problem-solving techniques.
Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.
Skill to train and supervise inmates.
Skill in the use of tools, machinery, and equipment in the assigned area preferred.
IV. Additional Requirements with or without Reasonable Accommodation
A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 45 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.
B. Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and moving objects, working around moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat, excessive or intermittent noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, oils, solvents, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.
C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, hand tools, power tools, air tools, forklift, pallet jack, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
