Job Description

WR Grace is a leading Manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals and is seeking an Industrial Mechanic reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at our Curtis Bay plant in Baltimore, MD! This position will be responsible for supporting the plant’s mechanical maintenance program, playing a critical role in reactive and preventative maintenance. 

 

Schedule:  A Multi may be required to work a rotating shift schedule, work overtime, and work holidays as business dictates. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs precision repairs to plant mechanical equipment and devices
  • Troubleshoots plant equipment, identifies equipment problems, and performs effective repairs
  • Performs preventive maintenance
  • Disassembles and reassembles equipment to gain access to and remove and replace defective parts
  • Examines parts to detect imperfections
  • Evaluates used parts to identify changes to improve equipment performance
  • Installs, adjusts, and aligns machinery for maximum performance
  • Performs minor lubrication
  • Fabricates some new parts and will get parts when parts delivery is unavailable and work completion is time critical. 
  • Sets up and operate drill press, grinder, shop tools, hand tools, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
  • Uses acetylene, plasma cutter, or other burning equipment
  • Performs welding using stick, mig, tig, or other welding procedures
  • Fabricates and installs piping systems
  • Enters Confined Spaces to perform assigned work
  • Maintains a high level of housekeeping in shops and work areas at all times
  • Reads and interprets drawings & sketches

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in industrial setting
  • Candidates must pass a written mechanical aptitude and a hands-on mechanical aptitude test prior to being awarded the position
  • Complete the required in-shop tasks assigned per the training checklists
  • Perform the essential functions of the job as determined by the Organization
  • Progress to the level of Multi Skilled Mechanic I
