What a Day Looks Like
You start by reviewing the maintenance schedule and walking the floor to spot opportunities to make equipment run safer and smarter. A furnace needs attention, an induction coil shows signs of wear, and a production line requires a precision alignment. You prioritize, plan, and execute—often independently—bringing the skillset of a millwright with strong mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC capabilities. When a better fix exists, you find it; when a safer method is possible, you champion it.
The Work You Will Own
- Take on project tasks assigned by the supervisor, coordinating work across multiple machines and areas.
- Repair existing machinery and install new equipment or parts to keep operations running smoothly.
- Perform welding, brazing, and torch cutting to fabricate or restore components as needed.
- Assist with furnace and induction coil repairs, and restore machine fixtures and components to spec.
- Operate a full range of power hand tools and toolroom equipment, including lathe, mill, drill, saw, and grinders.
- Apply basic pipefitting skills for electrical conduit layout and installation.
- Handle related duties such as housekeeping, tool and spare parts upkeep, supplies management, system entries, and other assignments.
- Model safe work practices at all times and consistently meet deadlines.
How You Work
- Execute preventive and predictive maintenance per the Maintenance Planner, including lubrication schedules and equipment inspections (e.g., cranes, hammers).
- Interpret written, verbal, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions and translate them into action on the floor.
- Evaluate the work of team members and provide direction when needed; demonstrate working knowledge of production machinery operations and capacities.
- Read and apply safety policies and procedures; train peers, provide clear instructions, and document routine reports and internal correspondence.
- Lead by example in safety, quality, and urgency.
- Safely lift, lower, push, and pull up to 40 lbs.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED (required); technical certificate preferred.
- Five years of experience in a mechanical trade with ability to weld, perform machine work, and execute general maintenance repairs.
- Proficiency reading machine detail blueprints.
- Skill with precision, close-tolerance measuring tools.
- Fluency with standard shop math.
- Strengths in mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and PLC programming/troubleshooting; electrical systems knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision while elevating safety and productivity.
