Role Snapshot

Be the hands-on force that keeps steelmaking moving. As an entry-level Utility Person, you’ll support production and service units across U. S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works — applying here considers you for openings at Clairton Works, Irvin Works, and Edgar Thomson Works.

Key Tasks

  • Operate and apply basic hand tools, pneumatic equipment, gauges, oxygen lances, power-actuated tools, and torches.
  • Load, move, and process materials and finished product throughout the mill.
  • Assist with equipment inspections and routine maintenance activities.
  • Work safely around hot, heavy, or sharp materials and hazardous chemicals.
  • Perform physical tasks, including lifting over 25 lbs.
  • Work in multiple mill areas with conditions that can be hot, cold, wet, greasy, dirty, and noisy; some tasks may be near molten metal.
  • Operate designated mobile equipment in a heavy industrial setting.

Schedule

  • Rotating 8-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime required as business needs dictate.

Safety & PPE

  • Always follow safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Use PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and metatarsal boots; respirator when required.

Career Path

Following brief on-the-job training, advance to a Utility Technician role operating overhead and mobile cranes, tractors, trucks, dozers, loaders, boom trucks, and feeders.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and self-direction.
  • Must pass a pre-employment digital assessment.
