Industrial Maintenance Technician (Process Equipment)

Location: PPG, Greensboro, NC
Compensation: Starting at $26–$35 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience
Schedule: 1st shift, Monday–Thursday, 5:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Flexibility to work overtime during the week and on weekends to meet production needs.

A day in the life

You arrive before sunrise, review the overnight maintenance log, and plan your priorities. A mixer is due for a PM, an extruder needs a seal swap, and a classifier is throwing an alarm. By mid-morning, you’ve diagnosed a gearbox vibration, replaced a worn bearing, and verified the fix with a proof test. After lunch, you climb to an elevated platform to inspect a drive chain, tidy the work area using 5S, and log your work in the CMMS so production has complete, accurate records. Before you leave, you walk the line, observing equipment performance and proactively noting opportunities to prevent tomorrow’s downtime.

What you’ll do

• Install, modify, and repair production machinery and facility equipment to keep operations running at peak performance.
• Troubleshoot sophisticated building and process systems; diagnose faults and replace/repair components.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance across belts, piping, filters, mixers, valves, bearings, motors, gearboxes, dies, extruders, feeders, rolls, drive chains, classifiers, mills, mechanical seals, and pumps.
• Perform equipment proof testing after repairs to validate performance and prevent recurrence.
• Work safely in confined spaces and at heights, including on ladders, scaffolds, roofs, and elevated platforms.
• Drive 5S best practices to improve safety, organization, and efficiency.
• Identify root causes under time constraints; select and implement durable corrective actions.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, CAD drawings, and schematics to plan and execute work.
• Maintain precise documentation and reports in the CMMS.
• Proactively observe running equipment to detect emerging malfunctions.
• Apply basic welding and fabrication skills for on-the-spot fixes and improvements.

What you bring

• 7–10 years of industrial maintenance experience; chemical manufacturing background preferred.
• Working knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems.
• Completion of a Certified Maintenance Apprenticeship or Mechanical Institute certificate.
• Hands-on experience rebuilding pumps and gearboxes.
• Fluency in technical documentation and plant CAD drawings.
• Comfort working in confined spaces and at various heights; capable of lifting and other manual tasks.
• PC proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and familiarity with CMMS tools such as MicroMain, SAP, or similar.
• Ability to wear all required PPE, including a respirator.
• Reliable attendance, strong safety mindset, and availability for overtime as needed.
