Job Description Summary

The instructor will teach courses in Maintenance and Automation, focusing on frequency drives, the foundations of electricity, smart sensors, and pneumatics. The ideal candidate will have both strong theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience and be eager to educate and mentor students in an engaging and hands-on learning environment.

This position provides instruction and advising for students seeking certification and short-term training in the Economic &Workforce Development Department and the Advanced Manufacturing Center. This position guarantees a minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 129 hours per month. Instructional hours are paid, and preparation and curriculum development are expected as part of the role, included in the higher instructional rate.

Duties

1. Deliver in-person instruction on industrial automation systems and maintenance practices, including Frequency Drives, Foundations, and Troubleshooting of Electricity, Smart Sensors, Pneumatics, Programmable Logic Controllers, an Overview of industrial robotics, automation integration, and programming within Advanced Manufacturing Continuing Education

and Customized Training programs at A-B Tech campuses, designated training sites, and partner locations.

2. Maintain mastery of subject matter and ensure curriculum reflects current industry standards and workforce needs.

3. Develop, customize, and update curriculum, teaching materials, activities, assignments, projects, and assessments; incorporate instructional technology as appropriate.

4. Collaborate with employers, internal teams, and subject-matter experts to align training with workforce needs and job competencies.

5. Maintain confidentiality of student and partner information.

6. Assess learner progress and adjust instruction to support skill development, progression, and credential attainment.

7. Supervise students in classrooms, labs, field trips, and hands-on experiences, ensuring adherence to the Code of Classroom Conduct and Code of Student Conduct.

8. Ensure safe operation, setup, and basic maintenance of machining equipment and lab facilities. 9. Support program development, scheduling, and continuous improvement initiatives.
10. Maintain accurate course documentation, reporting, and compliance with college policies and standards.
11. Prepare lesson plans and deliver instruction, evaluating student progress consistently and fairly.
12. Manage attendance, grading, rosters, class schedules, and section changes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
13. Monitor inventory, submit materials and supply requests, and exercise stewardship of college resources and facilities.
14. Maintain equipment to meet safety standards and ensure readiness for instruction. Uphold the highest standards of safety, organization, and cleanliness in labs and shop areas, adhering to all college, department, and discipline-specific policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

1 Must have a minimum of an Associate Degree;
2 Must have at least three years of full-time or equivalent experience delivering training or instruction in a corporate, industrial, or workforce development setting.
3. A minimum of three years of hands-on industry experience in industrial automation, maintenance, or a closely related field.
4 Knowledge of industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing processes.
5. Proven experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), frequency drives, smart sensors, robotics, and pneumatic systems.
6 Ability to develop, customize, and deliver curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments.
7 Strong collaboration and communication skills with students, employers, and team members.
8. Ability to supervise students in classrooms, labs, and hands-on training environments.
9. Basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting skills to ensure safe and operational labs.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Proficiency with common automation software and tools, such as Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or other PLC programming platforms.
2. Industry certifications (e.g., Siemens PLC, Allen-Bradley, FANUC Robotics) are highly desirable.
3.• Experience designing and developing training or educational curriculum.
4. Proficiency in a foreign language, such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.

  • A Teaching demonstration will be required.
  • The Teaching Presentation will feature a 15-20-minute hands-on session aimed at instructing participants on the practical application of a key manufacturing process or piece of machinery. This presentation should showcase technical expertise and the ability to teach complex processes to workers with varying skill levels effectively. The focus should be on clarity, engagement, and real-world application. The criteria for evaluating a candidate's presentation skills include content, delivery, engagement, technical knowledge, and teaching effectiveness.


If selected for hire:
  1. If selected for hire, official sealed transcripts from an institution accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education are required to be received a minimum of two business weeks before the first day of work.
  2. Transcripts outside of the United States, must be accompanied by an evaluation completed by a NACES recognized agency and received by Human Resources at least two weeks prior to the first day of work.
