Step into a day on the BAC Dayton plant floor

Morning starts with a walk-through of the production lines, checking machine safeguarding, LOTO stations, and fall‑protection gear. You lead a quick safety huddle, align on the day’s high‑risk tasks, then review last night’s incident reports, root‑cause findings, and corrective actions. By midday, you’re updating training content, coaching a new forklift operator on PIT best practices, and closing out findings from an electrical safety inspection. Later, you brief the Plant Leadership Team on EHS KPIs and sustainability metrics, coordinate with global and regional EHS counterparts to share lessons learned, and finish the day planning an emergency response drill.

What you’ll own

  • Design, implement, and sustain plant EHS standards, processes, and programs spanning machine safeguarding; hazardous energy control (LOTO); fall protection; crane and hoist safety; PPE; fire prevention; emergency response; electrical safety; powered industrial trucks; ergonomics; confined space entry; hazardous materials handling; industrial hygiene; contractor safety; hot work; behavior‑based safety; risk management; job hazard analysis; waste management; stormwater pollution prevention; and air/wastewater permit compliance.
  • Lead the incident management system: reporting, investigations, root‑cause analysis, corrective action tracking, communication of learnings, and continuous improvement of the process.
  • Build and deliver EHS training and awareness so employees are qualified and consistently working safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Conduct routine inspections and assessments; communicate findings; assign and track corrective actions through closure.
  • Monitor and report EHS performance indicators to the plant leadership team; recommend strategies to close gaps and address emerging risks.
  • Collaborate with regional and global EHS leaders to exchange best practices and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Drive environmental sustainability: gather and validate data, report monthly sustainability KPIs, and execute projects that reduce water use, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions; share actions with other facility sustainability coordinators.
  • Review new or modified equipment, processes, products, raw materials, and services to identify hazards, environmental impacts, and required controls; obtain new/modified permits or registrations as needed.
  • Complete environmental reports, including SARA 312/313, air emission inventories, biennial hazardous waste reports, discharge monitoring reports (DMRs), and pollution prevention reports.
  • Perform environmental monitoring such as stormwater and wastewater discharge sampling and waste profiling.
  • Develop systems that ensure compliance with legal and other applicable EHS requirements (including BAC and/or Amsted standards).
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with local and state regulatory officials.
  • Contribute to site operations knowledge as a member of the Site Leadership Team; perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager, Global Manager of EHS, or an Operations Executive.

How you’ll partner and report

This role is part of the Plant Leadership Team and reports to the Plant Manager, with a dotted‑line to the Corporate Global EHS Manager. You will work hands‑on with site employees and leaders and may have up to one direct report.

What you bring

  • B.S. in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in heavy manufacturing, including 2+ years in a leadership capacity.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA programs: hazardous energy control, fall prevention, confined space, electrical safety, powered industrial trucks, crane safety, material handling, hearing and respiratory protection, machine safeguarding, hazard communication, and OSHA recordkeeping.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations for air, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous waste management (permitting, reporting, and compliance).
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage programs/projects; strong prioritization, focus, and results orientation.
  • Calm under pressure with a positive mindset; relationship‑builder who fosters trust and accountability.
  • Decisive, timely communicator who closes the loop to ensure actions are completed; strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working conditions

  • Manufacturing environment with primary schedule Monday–Friday dayshift; availability required for all shifts and some weekends for meetings, training, or incident response.
  • Travel up to 10%.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs; work in varied positions during inspections and training in both office and plant settings.

Preferred proficiencies
