A night on the floor

When the line ramps up at dusk, you’re the go-to expert ensuring every motor starts cleanly, every conveyor runs true, and every PLC handshake is solid. A call comes over the radio—an upstream sensor is tripping. You isolate the fault, verify voltage and resistance, sketch the wiring approach, and bring the equipment back online quickly to cut downtime. Between calls, you scan the floor to spot issues before they become problems, replace a flickering light, and coordinate with the Storeroom Supervisor so the right parts are ready for the next repair. By sunrise, your records are complete, timers and counters are calibrated, and the plant is set for the day shift.

What you’ll do

  • Perform all tasks safely; immediately correct and/or report unsafe conditions and hazards.
  • Follow all federal, state, local, corporate, and plant electrical safety rules, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Comply with PPE policies, including steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and hair/beard nets as required.
  • Maintain quality standards while completing all work.
  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions to identify root cause and corrective action.
  • Monitor the radio and respond to calls promptly.
  • Calculate voltage, resistance, and related values; create dimensions and methods for wiring machinery.
  • Execute plant-wide electrical wiring, repairs, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Inspect equipment and facilities to detect and prevent potential issues.
  • Carry out emergency repairs rapidly to minimize downtime.
  • Repair and monitor air valves, motors, and machine components.
  • Stay familiar with all electrical equipment in the plant.
  • Partner with the Storeroom Supervisor to ensure materials are available for repairs.
  • Serve as Emergency Action Support.
  • Replace lighting as needed.
  • Document work accurately and completely.
  • Keep timers and counters functioning correctly.
