A Team Leader Warehouse oversees daily warehouse logistics, ensuring all inbound and outbound materials are processed accurately and on time. They assist the Warehouse Manager with the assigned activities to meet the
operation’s needs. They lead and train warehouse staff, maintain inventory integrity, and enforce safety, regulatory compliance, and adherence to food safety standards. This role collaborates closely with production, procurement, and logistics partners to optimize workflow efficiency and minimize downtime. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to improve operational processes are essential for success in this position.
Manage and coordinate warehouse material handling operation daily activities.
• Oversee shipping & receiving to provide efficient handling of materials.
• Coordinate material located in external warehouses to ensure the availability of material for the production lines as needed to meet plant and corporate objectives.
• Enforce the plant's safety program including GMP's, warehouse safety projects, and drive a safe workplace at all times. Monitor warehousing areas and employees to eliminate work hazards and unsafe acts. Train individuals in safety procedures, especially forklift operation, loading, unloading and trailer operation.
• Hold people accountable for their jobs by issuing disciplinary actions related to behavior, job performance or safety violations where necessary in compliance with collective bargaining agreement.
• Ensure that all packaging and raw materials are properly rotated on a First Expired First Out (FEFO) basis.
• Facilitate the counting processes for the site related to continuous cycle counting, and inventory accuracy reporting and monitoring. Responsible for assigning work to the team to ensure count schedule compliance. Execute inventory health checks and Warehouse/PSA reconciliations. Investigate Warehouse/PSA inventory discrepancies. Resolve inventory problems in a timely manner.
• Plan and prepare production / packaging schedules to ensure a controlled production flow to meet customer requirements as well as protecting inventory goals.
• Consistently looks for continuous improvement and more efficient ways to improve the scheduling process. Create and implement continuous improvement plans for material handling and inventory processing.
• Drive initiatives to reduce costs through labor controls, damage reduction, implementation of new methods and tools to improve productivity. Find root causes and solutions to problems.
• Monitor equipment, submit work orders for repairs, and recommend changes for safe operation
• Create work schedules of employees to maintain consistent coverage across all shifts.
• Understand the process of Materials Handling, including receiving, storage, material transfers, supply material to the production lines, return from production lines to warehouse, FIFO, FEFO, tempering/thawing, SAP functions, RF system operation, and production schedules.
• Lead, guide, coach, train and monitor team progress.
• Communicate with Operations, Quality and Supply Chain Teams as appropriate to ensure smooth operation and timely resolution of any issues.
• Instill a sense of urgency within the team to accomplish goals and tasks.
• Ensure team members are properly trained. Plan/Execute/Follow Through/Inspect what you Expect.
• Responsible for material handling results: safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and waste. Keep the team informed of results.
• Ensure effective shift handover between team members that all issues are reported effectively.
• Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• High School diploma or GED equivalent required; four-year college degree preferred, or 3 to 5 years of experience in receiving, warehousing, delivering materials to the production lines, inventory control, with 3-5 years of people management.
• Previous experience in food-processing manufacturing is a plus.
• Strong computer skills required: Microsoft Office, especially Excel, working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems. SAP is a plus.
• Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles in a warehouse environment.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Leadership and analytical skills required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be available to work other shifts as assigned to ensure company objectives are met.
• Must be able to work/support plant during Fresh Pack. (7 days/wk for 16 wks – overtime premium pay)
• Excellent organizational skills: Ability to prioritize and schedule daily tasks.
• Experience in a Union environment is a plus
