Position Overview
The Youth Career Program Specialist delivers iJAG programming to middle school students through after-school and summer experiences in a community-based setting. This role expands access to career education beyond the traditional school day by providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences that inspire students to explore interests, build skills, and connect to future career pathways. Through student-centered, developmentally appropriate programming, the Specialist ensures participants gain meaningful exposure to careers, workforce skills, and educational opportunities while progressing toward iJAG career-readiness competencies. This role plays a critical part in increasing equitable access to high-quality career exploration opportunities for youth. The Specialist collaborates with community partners, families, and iJAG leadership to strengthen program impact, drive student engagement, and ensure program quality through strong data practices and accountability.
Essential Functions
Program Delivery & Career Education
- Design and deliver engaging, hands-on learning experiences aligned with iJAG competencies and career readiness outcomes
- Facilitate high-quality programming during after-school and summer sessions in a community-based setting
- Integrate project-based learning, career exploration, and real-world applications into all programming
- Introduce students to age-appropriate career pathways, postsecondary options, and workforce opportunities
Student Engagement & Development
- Build positive, supportive relationships that foster student engagement, belonging, and personal growth
- Coach students in essential employability skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, and goal setting
- Promote consistent attendance and support student retention in programming
- Create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment
Work-Based Learning & Community Engagement
- Develop and maintain partnerships with employers, community organizations, and volunteers
- Coordinate guest speakers, career panels, worksite visits, and other career exposure opportunities
- Collaborate with community partners to align programming and maximize student impact
Program Management & Implementation
- Plan, organize, and execute program schedules, activities, and events
- Adapt programming to meet the developmental needs and interests of middle school students
- Maintain a structured, engaging, and safe program environment
Data & Program Accountability
- Track, analyze, and report student participation, engagement, and outcomes
- Maintain accurate and timely records in alignment with iJAG performance standards
- Use data to inform continuous program improvement and ensure fidelity to the iJAG model
Organizational Engagement
- Participate in iJAG training, professional development, and required meetings
- Collaborate with iJAG leadership to align programming with organizational goals
- Actively support and promote iJAG’s mission of career readiness and student success
Work Environment & Schedule
- Community-based setting (non-traditional school environment)
- Requires flexibility to work after-school hours and extended summer programming
- Occasional travel for training, meetings, and student experiences
Requirements:
Qulifications
- A bachelor's degree in social sciences, counseling, education, or a closely related discipline is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- Ability to obtain iJAG authorization within six months of hire
- Ability to obtain Work-Based Learning (WBL) Supervisor Authorization within six months
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience working with youth in educational, after-school, or community-based settings
Additional Skills & Competencies

- Strong organizational and program management skills
- Experience using data to inform instruction and program improvement
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Ability to learn and utilize new data systems and technology platforms
