JOB GOAL(S)
Ensure IEPs are well written, compliant and appropriate for the needs of students and that IEP meetings are facilitated in compliance with legal requirements. Ensure students are placed in their LRE by utilizing effective practices to review student needs.
Job Description: Under the general direction of the Director of Student Services or designee, the IEP Specialist will review and provide corrective feedback to case managers in a timely manner to facilitate IEP meetings within the defined time frame. In addition, the specialists will manage a caseload of special education students.
The criteria indicated below are intended to describe various types of work that may be performed. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not prohibit them if the work is similar, related, or a logical task of the position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as LEA for IEP team meetings (complete all required paperwork ensure legally sound and in compliance with IDEA and ISBE)
- Review IEP's for compliance and provide timely feedback
- Administratively advise case managers on compliance and practice
- Monitor the IEP process timelines and tracking spreadsheets
- Schedule IEP team meetings and PNC's and manage the IEP Calendar
- Manage a caseload of students, as assigned
- Provide coverage to other LEAs on the district's administrative team as needed
- Check completion/quality of quarterly progress reports for all goals and objectives
- Ensure STAR testing is completed 3x yearly and assist with scheduling
- Assist with 8th-grade IEP meetings and transition to high school
- Collaborate with school counselors on the enrollment and transfers of students.
- Lunch & Learns and in-house professional development with regard to IEP development
- Coordinate/collaborate with Accommodations Facilitator for final exam schedules/accommodations
- Collaborate with Deans on behavioral concerns prior to consequences being issued
- Ensure course recommendations reflect services in all IEPs
- Communicate with Related Services Personnel on any and all relevant student information to ensure related services are provided as detailed in all IEPs
- Collaborate with the building coordinator to ensure Para coverage on days absent
- Communicate and answer any parent questions regarding IEPs and case-management
- Verify for accuracy and ensure IEP are implemented as outlined
- Assist case-managers in checking all schedules each semester (amendments if needed)
IEP TRANSITION PLANS:
- Collaborate with the Case Manager regarding transition planning
- Coach case managers and provide feedback on transition plans
- Recommend language and formatting for Drafted Plans
- Conduct Regular Transition Plan Audits
- Distribute Agency & Opportunity Information to CMs
- Consult on outside placement Transition Plans
