Position Overview: The IEP Facilitator is responsible for coordinating and managing the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. The facilitator ensures that all parties involved in the IEP process collaborate effectively to provide a quality educational experience for students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field
- Valid Missouri certificate in Special Education/Cross-Categorical
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
- Experience in special education and IEP development
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and other special education laws and regulations.
- Knowledgeable of the special education process and teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students
- Demonstrate skills in computer word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize, schedule, and lead IEP meetings with students, parents, teachers, school staff, and other professionals, ensuring meetings comply with federal, state, and district legal requirements.
- Serve as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at IEP meetings, except when the process coordinator or Director of Special Services is designated as LEA.
- Guide discussions in IEP meetings to address all concerns collaboratively and ensure informed decisions are made regarding student goals, services, placement,and accommodations.
- Develop, write, and maintain all IEP documents with input from teachers and specialists, including completing necessary forms for meetings and approvals.
- Ensure teachers and staff understand and implement accommodations, modifications, and services specified in the IEP.
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and adjust plans, services, and supports.
- Act as a liaison between families, educators, administrators, and outside agencies to support student needs.
- Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and teamwork to maintain effective working relationships with students, educational staff, parents, patrons, and administrators
- Track and maintain accurate records of IEP meetings, student progress, service summaries, and required documentation.
- Manage initial placements for new IEP students and coordinate enrollment and exits for transfer students with previous districts.
- Secure signed letters from parents for evaluation services (e.g., OT, PT, Speech/Language) and maintain all confidential files and records securely.
- Conduct file reviews each semester and ensure all IEPs are updated and compliant with timelines and regulations.
- Assist general education and special education teachers with classroom modifications, accommodations, and support strategies.
- Inform staff of transportation or other logistical needs for students, including extended school year services.
- Maintain and update all required forms, records, and documentation for assigned buildings.
- Attend evaluation staffing, DNQ meetings, transition meetings, and initial eligibility meetings as needed.
- Provide guidance and professional development to staff on special education law, IEP procedures, and best practices.
- Support the development and review of district-wide special education policies and practices.
- Stay current on changes in special education law, IDEA requirements, and best practices.
- Participate in the ongoing evaluation of special education services and provide feedback for program improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Superintendent/designee.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities Specific to Secondary IEP Facilitator Positions:
- Assist students with course selection, schedules, and credit tracking toward graduation.
- Develop and monitor courses of study that support diploma and postsecondary outcomes.
- Support credit recovery - courses customized according to IEP.
- Coordinate postsecondary transition planning, including workforce, military, and vocational rehabilitation options.
- Ensure postsecondary transition goals are measurable and aligned to students' strengths, interests, and needs.
- Administer and interpret career interest and aptitude assessments.
- Facilitate career exploration, job shadowing, and work-based learning.
- Engage families in transition planning and postsecondary decision-making.
- Support referrals to vocational rehabilitation, workforce agencies, and adult service providers.
- Educate students on the differences between high school supports (IEP/504) and postsecondary disability services.
- Support agency referrals and consent processes prior to graduation or exit.
- Maintain accurate transition documentation, assessments, and service logs.
- Track postsecondary outcomes (employment, education, training) when required.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Factors:
- Ability to work in a climate-controlled building, as well as in inclement weather.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for long periods of time.
- Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids, a computer screen and printed matter, and to distinguish colors.
- Sufficient hearing to understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
- Manual dexterity to operate a telephone and enter data into a computer using both hands.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation, on the telephone, and when addressing groups.
- Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, pull, grasp, and carry a variety of objects of different shapes and sizes.
- Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to travel to buildings within the district.
- Able to perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
