The City of Laramie is accepting applications for the position of Ice & Event Center Customer Service Specialist. This position will assist with daily operations at the Ice & Event Center, including, but not limited to, supervising the building and patrons, addressing health and safety issues, providing customer service, maintaining the facility, performing routine ice maintenance and skate sharpening, and working with user groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Check in guests and groups; take payments and rent out skating equipment.
- Take registrations for classes and leagues.
- Concession-style food service.
- Oversee the safety of patrons and enforce rules on the ice and in the arena.
- Public relations and customer service.
- Upkeep of the ice arena lobby, including cleaning and organizing.
- Identify hazards and unsafe practices, and make appropriate recommendations to minimize or eliminate those hazards.
- Operation of the Zamboni for routine ice maintenance.
- Operation of the Skate Sharpening machine to sharpen rental and customer ice skates.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying.
- Ability to work independently.
- Organizational skills and the ability to use computers and various programs.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Capable of taking direction and instruction from supervisors.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to ice-related activities.
- An understanding of basic food service and food safety practices.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to ice skate.
- Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, a good work ethic, a positive attitude, leadership, maturity, and the ability to communicate calmly.
- Demonstrate ability for self-motivation.
- Ability to foster and sustain enthusiasm among participants.
- Previous experience working in an ice arena.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
