Charlotte County is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced IT Security Administrator to ensure the secure operation of the County's internal systems, servers, and network infrastructure. This role is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and strengthening the County's cybersecurity posture while proactively identifying and resolving vulnerabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, maintain, and enforce security policies, procedures, and system access controls in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze server logs, firewall logs, intrusion detection systems, and network traffic for suspicious activity; investigate and resolve issues as needed.
  • Conduct user activity audits, perform virus scans, and respond to security breaches in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of disaster recovery plans for systems, networks, databases, and applications.
  • Recommend, schedule, and apply security patches, system fixes, and recovery procedures following security incidents.
  • Evaluate and recommend security reconfigurations; implement approved changes.
  • Research emerging cybersecurity technologies, tools, and standards to support ongoing improvements.
  • Recommend and coordinate security upgrades, enhancements, and third-party maintenance activities.
  • Deploy, administer, and maintain security systems, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software.
  • Manage database security and ensure the protection of data transferred both internally and externally.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, and access rights; generate reports on system activity and security audits.
  • Ensure the security of local area networks, the County website, intranet, and email systems.
  • Apply patches, updates, and remediation actions based on vulnerability and penetration testing results.
  • Provide input on the development and continuous improvement of security policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and security technologies; test and implement updates as needed.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical system needs.
  • Travel to County facilities as required to support operations.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service through technical support, problem-solving, and effective communication.

Education & Credentials That Power This Role

Education and Experience:

An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:

  • Associate's degree

  • Computer Sciences

  • Four (4) years of experience in information technology or IT security administration

Licenses and/or Certificates:

  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
