Job Title: I&C V&V Design Engineer
Location: Bellevue, WA, United States
Compensation: $67–$110/hr
Contractor Work Model: Remote – offsite

System One is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Verification & Validation (V&V) Engineer to support advanced Generation IV nuclear reactor technologies and Natrium digital I&C systems. This role provides technical leadership for planning and execution of V&V activities for safety-related digital systems in accordance with DSQAP, regulatory requirements, and nuclear quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

V&V Leadership & Planning
• Lead planning and execution of digital I&C V&V activities for assigned Natrium systems
• Develop and maintain V&V schedules, work breakdown structures, and resource plans
• Serve as technical lead for assigned Digital Systems V&V Organization teams
• Coordinate system-level requirements verification activities including analysis, inspection, testing, and demonstrations

Execution of V&V Activities
• Lead and coordinate V&V tasks, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
• Ensure compliance with V&V independence requirements for safety systems
• Develop and oversee V&V plans, test specifications, procedures, reports, and closure documentation
• Support SyAT, FAT, SAT, and integration testing activities
• Provide oversight of supplier IV&V activities for safety-related and non-safety digital systems
• Maintain configuration control and support audits, surveillance activities, and regulatory reviews

Technical Oversight & Integration
• Develop and review system and component specifications and scopes of work
• Perform engineering evaluations applying nuclear codes, standards, licensing requirements, and NRC regulations
• Develop technical design documentation including System Requirements Documents, System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, Engineering Specifications, P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, and loop diagrams
• Support licensing activities associated with Safety Analysis Reports
• Provide technical oversight and direction for supplier deliverables and technical reviews

Team Leadership & Collaboration
• Mentor and support V&V engineers and test engineers
• Coordinate activities across geographically diverse engineering teams and suppliers
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements
• Assist with design change evaluations and lifecycle support activities

Required Qualifications
• B.S. or higher in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
• 10+ years of direct I&C/V&V experience (advanced degree credits applicable)
• Experience planning and executing V&V for safety-related or high-integrity digital systems
• Experience developing test plans, procedures, execution strategies, and reporting documentation
• Knowledge of QA/QC programs including configuration management, corrective action programs, audit support, and nonconformance control
• Familiarity with nuclear quality standards such as 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and ASME NQA-1
• Strong technical leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and lead technical teams

Desired Qualifications
• Advanced reactor or sodium fast reactor experience
• Experience with nuclear-grade DCS or reactor protection systems
• Supplier V&V oversight and audit experience
• High-temperature process systems experience
• Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards
• Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks
• Experience with startup testing procedures and integrated system testing
• Strong technical writing and presentation skills
