The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time HVAC Technician - Department of Defense. The HVAC Technician provides field support for installation, integration, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning systems and associated controls within Industrial Control System environments. Work includes DDC controllers, sensors and actuators, VFDs, networks and gateways, and integration with UMCS and related monitoring platforms. The role documents work performed, supports commissioning and functional testing, follows safety and quality processes, and helps ensure reliable, code-compliant operation in support of a Department of Defense mission.

 

 

 

Required Experience & Skills
  • Five (5) years of experience related to HVAC systems with associated controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and controls issues on air handlers, chillers, boilers, pumps, terminal units, and related equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with DDC systems and protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks.
  • Ability to read and interpret control schematics, wiring diagrams, device layouts, and sequences of operation.
  • Proficiency using test instruments including multimeters, manometers, temperature probes, and flow measurement tools.
  • Familiarity with Government or industry processes, procedures, standards, methodologies, or tools relevant to HVAC and controls work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices including lockout/tagout, confined space awareness, hot work permitting, and fall protection basics.
  • Basic understanding of documentation requirements, including redlines, as-built updates, service reports, and O&M inputs.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity hygiene for operational technology environments, such as account handling and removable media discipline.
  • Strong communication skills for coordination with supervisors, facility representatives, and subcontractors.
  • Ability to travel to active project sites, including secure facilities.

 

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Manufacturer or platform certifications such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or Honeywell.
  • EPA 608 Universal certification.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30.
  • Experience supporting functional performance testing, integrated system testing, and commissioning.
  • Lift and aerial platform certifications as required by site.

 

Required Education

  • High School diploma plus technical training in a field related to task assignment.

 

Preferred Education

  • Associate degree or vocational certificate in HVAC, mechatronics, electrical technology, or related discipline.

 

Clearance

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

 

Travel

  • Minimum 50% to job sites CONUS and OCONUS as required by task orders.
