Job Description

Performs preventive maintenance, repairs and trouble-shoots all HVAC / Mechanical equipment throughout the City. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.

Job Functions

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Performs skilled work in maintaining and repairing HVAC and mechanical equipment.
  • Troubleshoots refrigerant and electrical control circuits to include direct digital controls.
  • Installs new equipment; replaces motors, pumps, compressors, actuator, sensors and digital control components.
  • Performs brazing of copper fittings and refrigerant recovery.
  • Performs Maintenance Technician duties that may include maintaining and repairing electrical circuits (switches, receptacles, lamps and ballast), plumbing (commercial and residential commodes and urinals repairs, clearing stoppages in sewer lines) and other assigned duties, both individually or alongside the facilities team.
  • Readily complies with departmental and countywide policies and procedures.
  • Performs related special projects as assigned.
  • Performs On Call Duty on a rotational basis.

The physical demands and environmental factors listed below, as well as regular attendance, are also essential functions for this position.

Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Five to seven years of experience in air conditioning and heating, electrical repair and installation or related field required.
  • Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and satisfy Criminal Justice Information Security (CJIS) requirements to enter certain secure City facilities such as the Public Safety Building. This means that the candidate must not have been convicted or put on court-ordered community supervision or probation for a Class B misdemeanor within the last 10 years, or at any time for any offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Associate degree or equivalent in Maintenance Technology.
  • Microsoft Office suite, and other office equipment.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Texas State HVAC license
  • EPA Certification Type I & II.
  • Valid Texas State drivers license required.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of:

  • A/C, heating, electricity, tools, gauges, cable, wiring, connectors, electrical codes, and freon.
  • Fire Safety Codes, OSHA Codes, Electrical Codes, and A/C and heating codes.

Skill in:

  • Air Conditioning, heating and electrical equipment.
  • Repairing and replacing equipment.
  • Redesign airflow and ductwork.
  • Read blueprints.

Ability to:

  • Troubleshoot and repair packaged and split direct expansion systems.
  • Understand technical manuals.
  • Type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work with the general public, city employees, department heads, elected officials and contractors in an efficient and professional manner.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed and during emergency situations.
  • Essential Personnel for Emergency Situations; at the discretion of the Department Director.
  • Occasional on call duty may be required.
  • Work in attics, crawl spaces and on rooftops.
