Job Summary:

SPC Mechanical’s HVAC Service Manager leads our HVAC service department. This role is hands-on, people-focused, and accountable for day-to-day execution. The HVAC Service Manager oversees a team of technicians and helpers, ensures safe and high-quality work, supports technicians in the field, and helps maintain SPC Mechanical’s reputation for integrity, quality, transparency, detail, and teamwork. Department growth is a focus, driven primarily through strong service, customer retention, and operational excellence.

Essential Functions:

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, develop, and support a team of commercial/industrial HVAC service technicians
  • Set clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism
  • Conduct regular check-ins, performance reviews, and coaching
  • Foster a team-oriented environment where accountability and respect go hand-in-hand
  • Uphold SPC Mechanical’s safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety policies

Service Operations

  • Manage daily service operations including scheduling, dispatch coordination, and emergency response
  • Provide technical assistance and decision-making support to technicians in the field
  • Ensure service work is completed correctly, efficiently, and to SPC Mechanical’s standards
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs and ensure consistent execution
  • Review work orders, service reports, and documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Review technician and helper timesheets for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide onsite walkthroughs and reports for deficiencies annually to existing customers
  • Provide onsite walkthroughs and reports for deficiencies for prospective customers

Customer Experience

  • Serve as a point of contact for HVAC customers, and a resource for plumbing service customers, or new construction site leadership
  • Resolve escalated service issues professionally and promptly
  • Reinforce SPC Mechanical’s commitment to long-term customer relationships, not shortcuts
  • Coordinate closely with project management and estimating teams when service overlaps with new construction or retrofit work

Financial & Performance Oversight

  • Monitor labor efficiency, productivity, and job costing
  • Review invoicing and service billing for accuracy
  • Track and report basic performance metrics (response time, callbacks, customer satisfaction)
  • Assist leadership with budgeting and planning for service operations
  • Price and plan out new customers, or quotes for existing customers

Training & Development

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training of service technicians
  • Identify skill gaps and support ongoing technical and safety training
  • Help develop technicians into reliable, independent professionals

Department Growth (Secondary Focus)

  • Support steady, controlled growth through:
    • Strong customer retention
    • Effective maintenance programs
    • Identifying service and upgrade opportunities during routine work
  • Provide input on staffing, fleet, tools, and systems needed to support growth without sacrificing quality

Required Qualifications:   

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial and/or industrial HVAC service experience
  • Previous experience supervising or leading multiple technicians
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial/industrial HVAC systems
  • Proven ability to lead by example and earn technician trust
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure
  • EPA Certification required; additional certifications are a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Safety-first mindset
