ROLE SUMMARY

The HVAC Piping Operations Supervisor is responsible for driving operational excellence across project delivery with a primary focus on fabrication/prefabrication strategy, production readiness, and field integration. This role partners closely with Construction Operations and BIM/VDC to standardize workflows, improve jobsite productivity, reduce rework, and ensure model-driven fabrication supports safe, predictable installation. The Operations Supervisor leads planning, coordination, and performance management across office and field interfaces to deliver schedule certainty, quality, and margin improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1) Fabrication / Prefabrication Operations Leadership

  • Lead fabrication strategy across assigned projects, including spool planning, kitting, modularization, and production sequencing aligned to field install plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement in fabrication productivity impact and utilization.

2) BIM/VDC & Constructability Integration

  • Partner with BIM/VDC to ensure model content is fabrication-ready: correct LOD/LOI, hanger/support standards, sleeves/penetrations, and spooling conventions.
  • Facilitate constructability reviews with field leadership to ensure installation methods, access, sequencing, and safety requirements are reflected in the model and fabrication deliverables.
  • Define standards for shop drawings, spool sheets, point layouts, and installation packages to reduce interpretation and rework.
  • Ensure a closed-loop feedback process from field to VDC and fabrication to improve future details and standards.

3) Construction Operations Collaboration (Field Integration)

  • Coordinate with Superintendents/Foremen to align fabrication outputs with look-ahead plans and installation milestones.
  • Ensure prefab deliverables are installation-ready (correct labeling, kitting completeness, packaging protection, delivery timing, and staging plans).
  • Support planning and remove constraints related to fabrication readiness, material availability, and drawing/model completion.
  • Act as escalation point for fabrication/field conflicts and drive timely resolution.

4) Materials, Procurement & Logistics Alignment

  • Coordinate with purchasing and project teams to ensure long-lead material strategy supports fabrication schedules.
  • Implement kitting and staging processes to improve material availability, reduce jobsite congestion, and minimize handling.
  • Align delivery plans with site logistics, crane/hoist schedules, laydown constraints, and installation sequencing.

5) Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Implement fabrication QA/QC checkpoints (dimensional verification, weld/solder/braze standards, labeling, packaging, and documentation).
  • Ensure prefab processes and field integration support safety planning (lift plans, rigging points, access platforms, etc.).
  • Promote compliance with applicable codes, standards, and company SOPs (documentation, inspections, and turnover requirements).

6) Financial & Performance Management

  • Support project budgets and margin improvement through labor productivity, reduced waste, reduced rework, and improved schedule performance.
  • Track performance metrics and report trends to operations leadership (weekly/monthly).
  • Assist project teams with change management impacts related to fabrication scope, design changes, or sequencing revisions.

7) Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide leadership and direction to fabrication coordinators and/or project support staff assigned to prefab efforts.
  • Train project teams (PMs, PEs, field leaders) on standardized prefab and BIM/VDC workflows.
  • Champion consistent methods across projects and help scale best practices regionally.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years in HVAC Piping construction operations, fabrication/prefab, or project delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating BIM/VDC outputs into shop production and field installation.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC Piping systems, supports/hangers, coordination constraints, and field means/methods.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive standardization and process improvement.
  • Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of job site safety standards and commitment to following all company safety policies.
  • Experience with lean construction, pull planning, constraint management, and production control.
  • Familiarity with model-based detailing/spooling workflows (e.g., Autodesk platforms, ACC, Navisworks, Revit, fabrication databases).
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; valid driver's license required.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and clients.
  • Med Gas experience with certification a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
