SOCORRO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT Department of Human Resources JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Human Resources Specialist -Employee Leaves Salary Block: 307 Reports To: Director of Human Resources Terms of Employment : 226 Days Exemption Status : Non -Exempt Primary Purpose: Implement district leave program according to established policies, rules and regulations. Process and provide timely notification and communication to employees and supervisors regarding leaves and absences. Qualifications: Education/Certification: • High school diploma/equivalent or higher • An Associate's Degree in Business, Human Resources or related field (preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills: • Knowledge of administration of leave programs and applicable laws • Knowledge of district's administrative applications • Knowledge of substitute tracking systems or similar systems • Proficiency with desktop productivity applications (MS Office Suite) • Strong time management skills and ability to multi -task • Ability to interpret and disseminate information to individuals and groups Experience: • Three (3) years' experience in Human Resources, Risk Management, or related field Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Communicates with the campus and departmental administrative staff to process daily absence reports. 2. Reviews all long -term absences, determines eligibility for various leave programs including Family and Medical Leave (FML) and temporary disability leave according to established guidelines, and provides employees with timely notice. 3. Counsels with employees and supervisors concerning leave benefits and provides employees with accurate information on deductions from pay relating to absences, medical certification requirements, return- to-work dates, etc. 4. Reconciles leave information for service record module. 5. Works cooperatively with payroll department and risk management to process and coordinate all employee leaves and absences, including those relating to workers' compensation claims. 6. Assists with employee orientation program and presents information on leave benefits. 7. Maintain and reconcile employee leave records, including confidential medical information in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations in addition to district policies and procedures. 8. Inputs, accesses, and compiles data and assists with preparing reports o n employee leave status and utilization of leave programs. 9. Works with the coordinator who oversees Risk Management to verify status of district employees taking long - term absences to ensure employees are timely and correctly paid according to their leave balances. 11. Works cooperatively with payroll and other HR staff to ensure accuracy of leave reports. 12. Inputs leave days into the district data base for all employees and verify absence information as needed. 13. Distributes attendance and accrual reports as requested by various departments and campuses. 14. Runs pay docking reports for district employees and verify accuracy of the information. 15. Runs personal leave rei mbursement reports on part -time personnel for payroll and checks to ensure accuracy. 16. Maintains confidentiality of personnel matters. 17. Serves as a backup and provides support on leave information for the service record module. 18. Upholds and adheres to safety r ules and policies of the SISD Safety program. 19. Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies. 20. Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption of district operations. 21. Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor. 22. Provides optimal customer service to all students, employees, parents, community members and any other stakeholders of the district.
