Job Summary

The County of San Diego has current openings for Human Resources Specialist.

The starting salary for this position will be based on the candidate's qualifications at time of appointment.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 - 4.49% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment)

June 2027 - 4.49% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 1.49% Market Adjustment)

Human Resources Specialists are responsible for performing entry-level professional tasks in human resources disciplines and/or assist higher-level human resources staff in the daily operation of a personnel office. These positions perform tasks involving recruitment, selection, classification, compensation, benefits, risk management, labor relations, human resources information systems, payroll processing, coordinate interviews, and provide advice and human resources information to staff. Current vacancies are in the Auditor & Controller, but the list established from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies in other departments as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelors degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency; OR,
  • Four (4) years of human resources experience.

Notes: Education and work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Hiring Timeline and Dates

  • Job Offer and Background Process begins after interviews. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.

The current vacancy is for the Sheriffs Office. The list established by this recruitment may also be used to fill vacancies in other County departments.

Condition of Employment

As part of the County of San Diego's pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Evaluation

Qualified applicants will be placed on a six (6) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications.
