Overview of Position

The Human Resources Director (HRD) is an essential leader at JF&CS setting strategy, overseeing operations, and rolling up their sleeves in areas including benefits, recruitment, staff development, compensation, and employee relations.

Reporting to the Chief People and Operations Officer (CPOO), the HRD will work closely with leaders and staff across JF&CS, in a mission-driven, collaborative, and positive environment. The HRD will oversee the HR Generalist and HR Assistant, and will work closely with the Fiscal Department Payroll team. The HRD is a critical leader and thought partner for the PeopleOps departments and the agency as a whole—working with our management team and our 270 full-time and part-time staff. This is a full-time position with a hybrid schedule of three to five days a week of in-person work.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and coach with managers and employees, providing guidance in areas including employee relations, performance management, organizational development, professional development, leaves, and compensation.
  • Support a quality work environment to attract, nurture, retain and develop an engaged workforce
  • Optimize and administer compensation and benefits, including ensuring equity, budget alignment, and clear employee communication.
  • Work with the HR team and hiring managers to create job descriptions and support effective and efficient interview and selection processes.
  • Oversee all elements of new employee orientation, performance management, and employee engagement surveys, and promote continuous improvement of HR processes and policies
  • Work with the CPOO to oversee the Leadership Team communities of practice small-group development trainings.
  • Develop and promote opportunities for training and career development and oversee mandated trainings.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll team to ensure accuracy and efficiency, and help with the buildout of a relatively new HRIS system (Paycom).
  • Supervise two HR staff, develop their skills, and optimize departmental roles and structures
  • Develop and monitor departmental budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal and State laws, regulations, and practices.
  • Work in concert with the agency’s Tent Committee to support and promote a fair, inclusive, and respectful workplace

 

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

  • Education/Experience Requirements:
    • 7+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource roles, including prior leadership experience.
    • Experience and/or deep knowledge of employee relations and management, talent acquisition, compensation management, benefits, employee training, and HR project work.
    • SHRM certification preferred
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills – able to build relationships quickly and establish credibility and buy in with employees at all levels from entry level to CEO
    • Knowledgeable of Massachusetts and Federal employment law, compensation and benefits management, including medical plan and 403b structures
    • A skilled people-manager and coach
    • Experience with HRIS systems (PayCom would be a plus)
    • A thoughtful leader who melds creativity, flexibility, and careful judgment
    • Commitment to social services mission
