Job Description

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Human Resources Coordinator II to join our Human Resources team. The Human Resources Coordinator II plays a key role in processing personnel actions, maintaining employee records, and ensuring compliance with City policies and procedures.

What You'll Do

As a Human Resources Coordinator II, you will:

  • Review, approve, and process personnel actions, including new hires, promotions, transfers, salary adjustments, status changes, and terminations.
  • Collect, analyze, and verify personnel information to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain employee records and documentation related to personnel transactions.
  • Serve as a resource to departmental payroll and HR staff by providing guidance on policies and procedures.
  • Assist with training and communication related to Human Resources processes.
  • Prepare reports and maintain records to support HR operations.

Required Qualifications

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in human resources management or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
