We are an employer of choice! Here's why:
About the Position
At the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC), our work matters. Every day, we protect consumers, the public interest, and Washington's economy through fair, effective, and transparent regulation of the insurance industry. Behind that mission is a dedicated workforce—and the Human Resources team plays a critical role in ensuring our people are supported, empowered, and treated equitably.
The Human Resources Consultant 4 (HRC4) is a senior-level HR professional who helps make that mission possible. Assigned to the Executive Division and reporting directly to the Human Resources Director, this role serves as an expert HR Generalist and trusted advisor to agency leadership, managers, and employees. The HRC4 works independently on complex, high-risk, and highly sensitive human resources issues, providing thoughtful guidance that allows leaders to focus on serving the people of Washington.
In this role, you will have a direct impact on employee well-being, organizational effectiveness, and equity. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated professional experience independently administering protected leave programs, supporting employees and managers through the reasonable accommodation process, advising on investigations and labor relations, and be an expert level consultant on complex personnel matters. The HRC4 ensures our policies and practices are compliant, fair, and aligned with OIC's values. Prior experience in a state or government setting is preferred. This position is also a key driver in advancing workforce diversity, mitigating bias, and fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace where employees can thrive.
If you are an experienced HR professional who values autonomy, collaboration, and meaningful public service—and who enjoys solving complex problems while supporting people at critical moments in their careers—this is an opportunity to make a lasting difference.
