Albany State University is a fully accredited senior unit of the University System of Georgia. Location
Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 209.
Job Summary
In alignment with Albany State Universitys (ASU) mission, values, and strategic priorities, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) serves as a trusted consultant and embedded strategic partner to assigned colleges, departments, and administrative units. The HRBP bridges institutional HR policy with the day-to-day workforce needs of the division, enabling leaders to build high-performing, engaged, and compliant teams.
Operating within ASUs People, Culture & Performance model and the WE C.A.R.E. culture framework, the HRBP provides guidance and support across all areas of human resources including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, organizational effectiveness, total rewards, and compliance delivered through a tiered service model that directs the HRBPs time where it has the greatest divisional impact. The HRBP is not a transactional service desk; the role is defined by relationship-driven, consultative, and strategic partnership.

Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
Collaborates with supervisors and hiring managers to forecast workforce needs and recruit high-quality, mission-aligned talent.
Leads the development, posting, and maintenance of position descriptions within the Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
Provides job description and classification guidance and supports recruitment strategy and search committee training.
Manages the full recruitment lifecycle, including applicant screening, interview support, and candidate selection.
Oversees pre-boarding activities (offer development, background checks) and coordinates a smooth transition into onboarding.
Partners on departmental onboarding best practices and supports retention and succession planning for assigned areas.
Employee Relations
Provides consultative support on employee relations matters, ensuring objective analysis, appropriate interventions, and adherence to university policies.
Coaches managers on performance, conduct, and difficult conversations, and reviews documentation for accuracy and consistency.
Facilitates conflict resolution and supports leaders in resolving complex matters with fair, consistent decision-making.
Conducts risk assessment and escalates as needed, coordinating with the HR Service Center, Title IX, or Legal on investigations.
Performance Management
Advises leaders on goal-setting frameworks, evaluation guidance, and performance management best practices.
Supports Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) development and provides supervisor coaching and debrief support.
Partners with supervisors to strengthen team effectiveness, communication, and employee engagement.
Supports annual performance conversations, engagement surveys, and feedback-driven action planning.
Compensation & Classification
Conducts market analysis and provides salary and equity recommendations in coordination with the Total Rewards function.
Supports reclassification and equity reviews and provides FLSA status guidance.
Partners with supervisors and HR leadership on compensation reviews, promotional requests, and career progression pathways.
Assists with compensation survey submissions and related benchmarking efforts.
Compliance & Policy
Ensures compliance with federal, state, USG, and university HR policies, civil rights regulations, and reporting requirements.
Applies in-depth HR knowledge to interpret policy and ensure consistent decision-making across the assigned portfolio.
Coordinates the ADA/accommodation process and provides FMLA, leave, and student worker rule guidance.
Maintains documentation standards and protects sensitive information with the highest standards of confidentiality and ethics.
Training & Development
Partners with supervisors to identify training needs for individuals and teams.
Develops and delivers HR-related training virtually or in person in collaboration with the HR team.
Provides coaching to leaders on workforce planning, change management, and employee development.
Supports initiatives that promote employee growth, skill development, and continuous improvement.
Strategic HR Partnership
Serves as a strategic advisor on organizational structure, workforce planning, performance challenges, and talent strategies.
Guides departments through HR processes, including leave administration, academic personnel actions, promotion and tenure coordination (as applicable).
Builds strong, collaborative relationships that support employee engagement, retention, and organizational effectiveness.
Provides data-driven insights and recommendations that align HR actions with university goals and the WE C.A.R.E. culture framework.
Participates in divisional leadership meetings as a standing strategic partner to remain informed of priorities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field required.
Minimum of five (5+) years of progressively responsible HR experience, including full-cycle employment processes.
Essential Competencies
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree preferred.
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
