Job Title: HR Generalist

FLSA Status: Exempt

Grade: 15 Pay Range: $53,601.60 - $66,996.80 (40 hrs/wk)

Position Summary

This position provides professional support for a wide range of human resources functions, including employee relations, benefits administration, risk management, and compliance, ensuring effective and efficient human resource processes across the organization.

Essential Job Duties

  • Facilitate new employee onboarding, including orientation and background checks
  • Administer and execute human resource programs such as compensation, benefits, leave, performance management, and training
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and review policies and practices to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Coordinate and document mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety and anti-harassment training
  • Serve as the main contact for risk management, including workers' compensation, general liability, property damage, and auto claims
  • Process payroll action forms and ensure proper approvals for payroll entries
  • Assist in the hiring process by coordinating job postings, reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and performing reference and background checks
  • Respond to and investigate employee relations issues, including complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights concerns
  • Prepare and submit required reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, including Internal Revenue Service and Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • Maintain and update employee records, handbooks, organization charts, and directories
  • Provide guidance and training to employees and officials, and participate in committees related to safety, insurance, and collective bargaining
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, or related field with 1-3 years of experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of laws and regulations related to benefits, Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Internal Revenue Service, and Affordable Care Act
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Proficient in accurate data entry and statistical information display to ensure effectiveness of systems
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with all levels of management, employees, elected officials, and external agencies
  • Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills for problem solving and managing multiple tasks
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as other office equipment
  • Ability to use independent judgment in problem solving with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law preferred

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to sit and stand for various periods of time
  • Frequently engages in movements such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, fingering, grasping, and feeling
  • Frequently required to hear and speak to carry on conversations in person and over the telephone
  • Frequently required to read and complete written correspondence and computer screen information
  • Occasionally moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds

Work Environment

  • This job is performed in an indoor office environment and involves regular use of computers and other standard office equipment. Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions and moderate noise levels may occur
