This is a full-time, on-site position located in Port Aransas, Texas. Remote work is not available. Must be eligible to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship.

The Marine Science Institute is a University of Texas at Austin Department of Natural Sciences satellite campus located in Port Aransas, TX, and notably the most significant marine science research facility on the Texas coast. Responsibilities
Ensures compliance with all applicable human resources laws and University policies. Models highest standards of professional behavior and respect for all. Ensures security of sensitive, confidential personnel information and follows University and state of Texas guidelines for record management and retention.
Processes and coordinates timely and accurately business processes in Workday, which includes recruiting, human capital management, time and absence, visas, benefits. Monitors workflow and approvals to ensure all are paid timely, accurately, and have their HR needs meet.
Works with supervisors in hiring and recruitment activities including consulting on titles, job postings and position descriptions, compensation and hiring decisions. Oversees the completion of on boarding of new employees, including orientation of the departments policies and practices.
Assist employees with Leave & Benefits policies (FMLA, SLP, Short term disability Insurance) & Retirement. Coordinate with Benefits and Leave Management Specialist. Monitors timely & accurate submission of time sheets.
Work with supervisors on performance management concerns and flexible work arrangement agreement approvals.
Liaison with International Office. Process Visas for new employees & students. Draft visa support letter and get Chair signature. Complete departmental worksheets and submit to International Office. Extend, modify, or renew employee work authorizations and visa status. Process petition and application for permanent residency to the International Office. Attend training sessions periodically to stay current on visa processes.
Processes faculty academic & summer assignments. Assist faculty with retirement process including health insurance and relevant retirement options. Liaison between retiring faculty and UT HR.
Run weekly and monthly workday reports to address business needs and financial reports to assist Assistant Director with forecasting needs
Consults and collaborates with Assistant Director and College of Natural Sciences Dean's office, central Human Resources, Payroll Services, and Workday Operational Support as needed as it relates to all areas of Human Capital Management.
Works with the Assistant Director and College of Natural Sciences Dean's office to promote a healthy workplace through the development of, or identification of, wellness, training, and professional development opportunities and staff recognition for employees at all levels. Responsible for monitoring programs and trainings.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
One year of experience performing administrative functions
Proven ability to exercise independent judgment; ability to exercise discretion, tact and diplomacy, ability to respond effectively within assigned deadlines; and excellent analytical and technical skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office software, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and respond to staff tactfully, clearly and concisely.
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
Professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times.
Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a higher education or public service organization.
Working knowledge of the employee management system, Workday.
Experience in human resource functions.
Salary Range
$50,000+ depending on qualifications

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
