The Opportunity

The HSE Safety Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and continuously improving health, safety, and environmental training programs that build workforce competency and reinforce a culture of safety excellence. This role partners with Operations, HSE leadership, project teams, and subject matter experts to ensure employees possess the knowledge and skills necessary to safely perform their work while meeting regulatory, client, and company requirements.

The HSE Safety Trainer designs engaging training curriculum, facilitates classroom and field instruction, evaluates training effectiveness, maintains qualification records, and supports the implementation of company safety initiatives across all service operations.

What you will do?

Training Program Development & Delivery

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company HSE training programs that align with corporate policies, client requirements, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Design instructor-led, field-based, virtual, and hands-on training programs for craft professionals, supervisors, project leadership, and HSE personnel.
  • Develop lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, knowledge assessments, and participant materials.
  • Continuously improve training content based on incident trends, regulatory changes, operational feedback, and lessons learned.

Safety Orientation & Workforce Development

  • Conduct new employee orientation and onboarding programs.
  • Deliver required regulatory and company-specific training, including:
    • OSHA Fundamentals
    • Hazard Communication
    • Lockout/Tagout
    • Fall Protection
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)
    • Powered Industrial Trucks
    • Respiratory Protection
    • PPE
    • Heat Illness Prevention
    • Energy-Based Safety Principles
  • Support development of competency-based learning paths for employees throughout their careers.

Technical & Operational Training

  • Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, and Project Leadership to develop training supporting site-specific procedures, MOPs, SOPs, permits, and client expectations.
  • Assist with implementation of new HSE initiatives, policies, and operational procedures through structured training programs.
  • Incorporate real-world case studies, incident investigations, and lessons learned into training materials.

Competency Management

  • Evaluate employee understanding through written exams, practical demonstrations, and field observations.
  • Maintain training records, certifications, qualification matrices, and competency documentation.
  • Track training completion and identify recurring competency gaps requiring additional instruction.
  • Support qualification programs for specialized work activities.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure training programs comply with applicable federal, state, provincial, and local regulations including:
    • OSHA 29 CFR 1910
    • OSHA 29 CFR 1926
    • NFPA 70E
    • ANSI Standards
    • EPA requirements
    • ISO 45001 principles
  • Maintain current knowledge of evolving regulations and industry standards and update training materials accordingly.

Incident Learning & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with HSE personnel to review incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Develop training modules based on root causes, trends, and organizational lessons learned.
  • Measure training effectiveness using leading indicators, employee feedback, assessments, and field performance.
  • Recommend improvements to increase workforce engagement and competency.

Collaboration

  • Partner with Regional HSE Managers, Operations Leadership, Project Managers, Engineering, and Human Resources to coordinate training initiatives.
  • Support implementation of company-wide HSE programs and strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as an HSE subject matter resource for training-related questions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Education, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred)
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry
  • NFPA70e
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive HSE experience in construction, industrial services, manufacturing, energy, or related industries.
  • Minimum three (3) years delivering instructor-led technical safety training.
  • Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, and competency assessments.
  • Experience facilitating classroom, virtual, and field-based instruction.
  • Experience supporting high-risk work environments.
  • Experience in Electrical Safety, Switching, Commissioning, LOTO Management, & Risk Assessments.
  • Experience with hands on electrical work, understanding the process and the risks involved.

  • OSHA Authorized Trainer (Construction and/or General Industry)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Occupational Health & Safety Technician (OHST)
  • Certified Instructional Trainer or equivalent adult-learning credential
