The department of Facilities Management at West Virginia University is accepting applications for an HVAC Trades Mechanic. About the Opportunity

Under the direction of the HVAC Manager and/or Lead, this position will provide maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of various types of HVACR supply and exhaust equipment and basic sheet metal repairs. Performs various construction and repair methods as required to maintain buildings and equipment at Health Sciences Center facilities.

Install repair and maintain HVACR equipment, mechanical equipment, fume hoods, exhaust hoods, refrigeration systems, walk-in coolers, chilled water systems, sub-zero freezers, and associated hardware.

Rebuild pumps, replace seals, replace bearings, and troubleshoot various types of mechanical equipment. Work from schematics and blueprints in trouble shooting and repair of equipment.

Repair of pneumatic and digital controls both during installation, repair, replacement, and upgrading systems as necessary to include controls and utilization of computer equipment.

Fabricate and install various sizes, shapes, and lengths of ductwork to support maintenance and construction projects.

Repair and installation of various hydronic heating and cooling equipment to include pumps, coils, and piping.

Custom design, fabricate, and install various types of sheet metal ducts, fabricating exhaust hoods to meet special installation needs.

Install fans, heaters, and furnaces as required.

Be proficient on the utilization of all sheet metal fabricating equipment and associated design/layout tools. Examples include sheers, power brake, power roller, lock former, drill press, milling machine, etc.

Balancing air flow systems.

Adapt and size new ducts to accept hydronic heating and cooling coils with pneumatic controls and electronic controls.

Will utilize various software and computer equipment in the performance of tasks, recordkeeping, etc.

Repair, install, and maintain a variety of refrigeration units and similar devices. To include recording and controlling refrigerants as required by code.

Fabricate, maintain, and/or repair various types of metal for kitchen equipment, laboratory equipment, shop equipment, heating and ventilation equipment, and research equipment.

Troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains ultra-low freezers, ice machines, air dryer systems, environmental chambers, window air conditioners, PTAC evaporative coolers, water coolers, refrigerators, gas fired appliances, and any other devices utilized for temperature control or ventilation.

These systems support many years of experimentation and thus are very important to the operation of West Virginia University.

Maintains and installs building control systems using pneumatic and DDC electrical controls.

Operates and maintains computer systems and coordinates projects and service with control vendor.

Interprets blueprints and specifications and develops as-built sketches of completed projects.

Weld, solder, and braze various types of metal materials and pipe, i.e., copper, stainless steel, brass, etc.

Repair, install, and maintain a variety of refrigeration units and similar devices. To include recording and controlling refrigerants as required by code.

Pay Grade PG14 Hours: 7a-3p

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to use diagnostic test equipment and tools

Physical Effort:

Daily: Stooping, walking, standing, crouching in very confined areas, climbing ladders, scaffolds, platforms at various heights and levels, hand-eye coordination, and some accuracy and regularity of motions working with test equipment and hand or power tools.
