To provide leadership, supervision, and organization of a specific athletic activity, and to carry out the objectives of the total athletic program.

I. REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

VI. COMPETENCIES: Temporary athletic team coaches shall give evidence of meeting the following required competencies.
A. Competency in the care and prevention of athletic injuries, basic sports injury
first aid and emergency procedures.
B. Competency in coaching theory and techniques in the sport or game being coached.
C. Knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the sport or game being
coached, league rules and AIA regulations
D. Competency in Child or adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation.
E. Competency in Substance abuse prevention, including but not limited to tobacco, alcohol, steroids and human growth hormones.
F. Not to have been convicted of any offense referred to in Education Code 44010, 44011, 44424, or any offense involving moral turpitude or evidencing unfitness to associate them with children.
G. To be free from tuberculosis and any other contagious disease that would
prohibit certificated teachers from teaching.
H. Pass finger print screening.
V. COACH''S CODE OF ETHICAL CONDUCT: Employees providing supervisory or instructional services in interscholastic athletic programs and activities shall:

VI. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Year-round Responsibilities
Formulate objectives for the coming sport season.
Keep abreast of rule changes, new ideas and techniques by attending
clinics and workshops, reading in his/ her field and encouraging the
assistant coaches to do the same.
Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations concerning his/her sport.
Promotes athletic program to student body to maintain appropriate
participation.
AIA association guidelines.
Inventory, selection, care and maintenance of equipment.
Encourages athletes to take PSAT, SAT, ACT. in order to prepare for
college.

a. Assist Athletic Director with proper registration of all athletes.
b. Review the district policy on accident reporting and insurance
procedures.
c. Arrange for a systematic issuance of school equipment. (inventory)
d. Explain all regulations of the district presented in the Players'
Handbook.
e. Clarify to athletes the letter award policy.
f. Select and instruct team managers on proper care of
equipment, facilities, and other duties as assigned.
a. Assume supervisory control over all phases of teams in the
program.
b. Organize and schedule practice sessions on a regular basis
with the idea of developing the athlete's greatest potential.
c. Record and keep accurate practice plans. They should have
timed and detailed progressions of your daily schedule.
d. Assume responsibility for constant care of equipment and
facilities being used.
e. Directly supervised or designate a locker room supervisor
(coach) who will unlock, supervise, and lock all
facilitates at the open / close of each practice.
f. Allow only those students who have been "cleared" to
participate, encourage academic responsibility through the
maintenance of academic eligibility.
g. Have Emergency Care Cards and first aid kit in possession at all practices and contests.
h. See that facilities regulations are understood and enforced.
i. Emphasize safety precautions and use accepted training and injury procedures.
j. Conduct oneself and teams in an ethical manner during practice and in contests.
k. Accompany and direct the varsity team in all interscholastic activities.
l. Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner according to SPVUSD Board policy.
m. File a discipline report with the Athletic Director when applicable.
n. Adhere to the SPVUSD transportation rules and regulations.
o. Report outcome of contest to the media and Athletic Director.
p. Provide to the Athletic Director for file purposes a copy of all general correspondence and bulletins to student athletes and parents.
q. Do not schedule practices or games during Academic Testing Schedule.
r. Pick up officials and or meal checks form ASB clerk. Return receipts to the ASB clerk following the contest.
s. Submit a letter award list and a list of special awards to the Athletic Director.
t. Provide for adequate supervision on overnight trips. Supervision plan requires principal's signature.
D. End of Season
a. Arrange for the systematic return of all school equipment and
hold the athlete responsible for all equipment not returned.
b. Arrange for cleaning, storing, and conducting an inventory of all equipment.
c. Recommend student athletes who have fulfilled requirements
for athletic letters. Certificates or special awards.
d. Recommend additions and/or improvement for the care and
maintenance of facilities and equipment.
e. Recommend to the Athletic Director and Principal, personnel
for assistant coaching position.
f. Submit recommendations for schedule for next year.
g. Select equipment and make recommendations for purchases of
such.
h. Prepare a budget in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
i. Maintain records of team and individual accomplishments.
j. Evaluate past season.
k. Return all emergency care cards to ASB Office.
l. Return all Keys (except that still need
character and decision-making ability supported by sound judgment.
