HR Specialist

The HR Specialist supports the day-to-day execution of key human resources programs, including employee records management, compliance, benefits administration. This role will ensure accurate HR documentation, by coordinating insurance and retirement plan processes, supportpayroll and provide employees with timely answers to HR related questions.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for injured employees, guiding them through the workers comp process
  • Assist HR with accident/injury reporting log and safety program initiatives
  • Partner with safety team to investigate work related accidents or illnesses, address unsafe conditions and prevent future incidents
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records of all claims, including medical reports, pay adjustments, and communication logs
  • Ensure compliance with employment and labor laws, and handling employee inquiries
  • Support managers with performance reviews, goal setting and feedback processes
  • Prepare and verify unemployment insurance wage information received on claims
  • Respond to verification requests for HR and payroll information related to financial institutions, employment verification, social services and other types of requests for wage information
  • Assist with benefits administration, enrollment and payroll related documentation
  • Maintain accurate employee databases, attendance, leave and payroll related records
  • Conducting audits to ensure adherence to regulations and internal controls
  • Deliver high-quality confidential service to staff/faculty
  • Use active listening, patience and a solution focused approach to resolve issues
  • Communicate benefit information to employees and ensure accurate records
  • Assist with new employee orientations, provide orientation materials and ensure compliance with onboarding procedures
  • Assist with offboarding processes, including finalizing paperwork and ensuring a smooth transition
  • Analyze workforce trends, turnover and engagement data to inform HR strategies
  • Attend internal and external department meetings as required and attend professional development opportunities as needed
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding policies, procedures, programs, PTO, benefits, etc.
  • Assist with enrollments and day-to-day coordination for benefit plans including dental, disability, workers comp, life insurance, EAP, etc. as needed
  • Maintain accurate HR records and data in HRIS systems
  • Prepare reports and analyze HR data to support decision making

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to work with high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to operate various office equipment, computer proficient at word processing, computers, fax machines, photocopiers etc.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with employees
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and follow written and verbal instruction

Education/Certifications Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • Associates degree or HR Certification (SHRM/HRCI) and 3-4 years of related work experience and/or training required

Skillset Requirements:

  • Experience in compliance, performance review, Workers Compensation, Onboarding, and employment laws
  • Experience with HRIS and Applicant Tracking systems
  • Knowledge of payroll

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk lift, pull push, carry objects; talk and hear; and use fingers/hands and arms to reach and computer work
  • Must be able to travel to other CSAT buildings
  • New York State Education Department Fingerprinting is required for all positions
