Job Overview:
The HR Generalist provides day-to-day HR support for the Arizona market, serving as a trusted partner to both associates and leaders. In this role, you will offer guidance and support in areas including employee relations, leave of absence administration, onboarding, and general HR operations.
 
You will play a key role in fostering a consistent and positive associate experience across multiple properties while ensuring compliance with Arizona and applicable federal employment laws. This position works closely with the HR Manager to support performance management and development processes and collaborates with cross-functional teams to help implement and advance HR initiatives.
 
The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and skilled at building strong relationships in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.
 
Compensation: 65k+ annually, based on experience
FirstService Residential will compensate the successful candidate in accordance with the posted range. The salary or wage paid to the successful candidate will be commensurate with experience, education, and specific job responsibilities. For positions designated at a client's property, the salary or wage will also be premised upon the client's directive. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
 
Your Responsibilities: 
Employee Relations & Compliance
  • Serve as a trusted resource for associates and leaders on employee relations matters, policies and workplace concerns.
  • Conduct and support employee relations investigations, ensuring objective, timely and well-documented outcomes.
  • Partner with HR leadership to recommend appropriate actions including coaching, corrective action, or development plans.
  • Conduct exit interviews and identify trends or themes to share with HR leadership.
  • Ensure HR practices comply with federal, state and Arizona employment laws.
Leave of Absence Management
  • Manage the leave of absence process in partnership with the centralized leave team.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable leave laws including FMLA, Arizona Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act, workers’ compensation and other applicable regulations.
  • Provide guidance to employees and leaders on leave eligibility, timelines and return-to-work procedures.
  • Support reasonable accommodation discussions and the interactive process under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Payroll & Timekeeping Support
  • Review timecards for accuracy, resolve missed punches, and ensure regular hours, overtime, PTO, and bonuses are submitted timely for payroll processing.
  • Process pay changes, transfers, and related updates in ADP.
  • Submit garnishments and child support orders to ADP for processing.
  • Assist with timekeeping questions, pay corrections, and payroll audit requests.
  • Reconcile benefits billing and coordinate payments as needed.
Onboarding & Orientation
  • Facilitate new hire orientation as needed to ensure a welcoming, compliant and engaging onboarding experience.
  • Manage new hire documentation including I-9 and E-Verify compliance.
  • Partner with hiring managers, Training partners and Talent Acquisition to ensure a smooth transition from candidate to new associate.
General HR Support
  • Support leaders with performance management, coaching conversations and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records, HR reports and HRIS data.
  • Coordinate required compliance trainings and track completion in accordance with company and state requirements.
  • Support HR programs, initiatives, and projects that promote engagement, development and culture.
  • Coordinate final pay processing in accordance with Arizona wage regulations in partnership with Payroll.
  • Promote adherence to company policies, SOPs, safety standards and core values.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of Arizona and federal employment laws, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) including the interactive process, Arizona Fair Wages and Healthy Families Act, and applicable wage and hour regulations.
  • Experience managing leave of absence cases in partnership with a centralized leave team or third-party administrator.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct or support employee relations investigations while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to establish trust with associates and leaders.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-through.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
  • Proficient with HRIS systems (ADP, Workday, or similar platforms) preferred.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and leaders at all levels of the organization.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience, including responsibility for employee relations investigations.
  • Experience supporting a multi-site workforce strongly preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as PHR, SHRM-CP, or PHRca are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and phone for extended periods of time.
  • Able to move about the office and travel between properties or work locations as needed.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials up to 15–20 pounds (such as files, office supplies, or onboarding materials).
  • Able to bend, reach, and retrieve documents or materials from standard office equipment and storage areas.
  • Able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via video conferencing.
  • Able to attend meetings, training sessions, and events, which may occasionally occur outside of standard business hours.
Work Location: Scottsdale, AZ
Work Hours: Monday – Friday; 8 AM – 5 PM
Travel Requirements: Some local travel required with the use of a personal vehicle
