POSITION SUMMARY:

 Advanced Behavioral Health, Inc. (ABH) is a nonprofit behavioral health organization committed to delivering meaningful, mission-driven care to the communities we serve. We are seeking an experienced HR Business Partner to support a workforce of approximately 150 employees and serve as a trusted operational partner to the VP of Human Resources.

 This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of core HR functions including benefits and leave administration, HR compliance, recruitment support, onboarding, and HRIS administration. The HR Business Partner provides direct operational support to the VP of HR and serves as a key backup in employee relations matters. This individual will help build a high-performing, compliant, and people-centered workplace that reflects ABH’s values and mission.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Performance Management

·         Support the VP of Human Resources in managing employee relations matters including performance concerns, corrective action, and workplace conflicts

·         Assist in documenting and tracking ER cases, investigations, and disciplinary actions under the direction of the VP of HR

·         Serve as backup point of contact for employee relations matters in the absence of the VP of HR; escalate complex or sensitive issues appropriately

·         Provide guidance to managers on documentation, policy interpretation, and corrective action processes in alignment with HR direction

·         Help maintain a consistent, fair, and compliant approach to employee relations across the organization

 Compliance & Risk Management

·         Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies

·         Support HR audits, policy updates, and regulatory reporting requirements

·         Assist with ADA accommodations, leave administration coordination, and employee documentation

·         Maintain working knowledge of employee benefit programs including group health plans, 401(k), FMLA, and workers’ compensation; serve as a resource to employees with general questions and direct complex matters to the VP of HR or appropriate vendor

·         Support annual benefits open enrollment including employee communications, enrollment processing, and coordination with the VP of HR and benefits vendors

·         Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment regarding all sensitive employee matters

Talent Acquisition & Onboarding

·         Partner with hiring managers to support recruitment, interviewing, and selection efforts

·         Assist in developing job descriptions and compensation recommendations

·         Support onboarding initiatives to improve employee integration, engagement, and retention

·         Participate in succession planning and talent development efforts

 HR Operations & Collaboration

·         Maintain accurate HR documentation and employee records

·         Partner with payroll, benefits, and HR operations to ensure smooth employee lifecycle management

·         Participate in HR projects, process improvement initiatives, and system implementations

·         Support organizational change management and communication efforts

Requirements

 Qualifications Required

·         3–5 years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated competency across core HR functions including benefits, leave administration, and compliance

·         Active HR certification required: PHR or SPHR (HRCI) | SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP

·         Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, workers’ compensation, and Connecticut employment law

·         Demonstrated experience administering employee benefits programs including health plans, 401(k), and workers’ compensation

·         Familiarity with leave administration including federal and Connecticut FMLA and CT Paid Leave

·         Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy and discretion

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate professionally with employees at all levels

 Preferred

·         Experience in a nonprofit, behavioral health, or human services organization

·         Experience working in a grant-funded program environment with an understanding of compliance and documentation expectations associated with public and private funding streams

·         Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now (HRIS, benefits, payroll, and reporting modules)

·         Familiarity with Connecticut-specific HR regulations including CT FMLA, CT Paid Leave, and CHRO compliance requirements
