Job Description

Were currently searching for a Housekeeping Worker to join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. This position addresses Custodial Operations needs by ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe environment across SECL facilities. In addition, it maintains established standards of cleanliness and sanitation in student lounges, offices, lobbies, stairways, restrooms, showers, windows, and other assigned venues. The duties include floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removal of trash, snow and ice removal from entranceways and sidewalks, raking leaves, and gathering trash from areas near buildings. Heres what you need to know about the role:

1) Youll be joining the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team: a department centered on uplifting the student experience by cultivating affirming environments, promoting holistic well-being, and providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities.

2) Youll report to the Housekeeping Supervisor. This is a regular, full-time, 100% staff appointment.

3) Youll be primarily responsible for maintaining and replenishing supplies in assigned areas and reporting any facility repairs or needs to management. Youll operate powered and manual cleaning equipment; mix chemicals in proper proportions according to established guidelines; and be responsible for the care and handling of Custodial Operations supplies, equipment, and assigned keys. Occasionally supports Event Operations Staff in the preparation of events scheduled in reservable spaces in SECL facilities.

Required Qualifications

Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors at a large university campus facility.

Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods.

Ability to work independently with little supervision; safely mix chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines; operate both manual and electrically powered cleaning equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in cleaning of institutional or commercial areas.
