SUMMARY: Coordinates and executes all transportation needs regarding resident usage of facility vehicles. Assists with provision of group activities as time allows. Incumbent is to perform the day -to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing the Nursing Home facility, and as may be directed by the Nursing Home Administrator to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following:
- Responsible for scheduling and driving of facility vehicle(s) for resident use (medical appointments, activities, and other community outings). Maintain all necessary records including: reservation calendar, emergency information, vehicle log (mileage, destination, date number of passengers, driver name, maintenance information, etc.
- Follow all established state, federal laws, facility policies and procedures, especially with regard to transportation, safety (vehicle, resident, and wheelchair), use of wheelchair lift, emergencies, and inclement weather.
- Maintain communication with facility when transporting residents. Check out cellular phone prior to leaving facility, carry phone when away from vehicle, and return phone to designated location at end of usage.
- Establish and maintain verbal and written communication systems with Nursing personnel, regarding appointment schedule, preparation of resident. And other assistance with transportation, as necessary.
- Seek family member/ volunteer/ nursing assistance with resident transportation, as necessary.
- Inform/ remind resident(s) of scheduled appointments in advance, and day of appointment.
- Responsible for daily and ongoing upkeep of facility vehicle(s) and content. Established and execute regular vehicle cleaning, maintenance, and preventive maintenance schedules. Maintain contents in good repair.
- Assist with activity programming when requested by Activity Coordinator.
- Attend workshops, classes, and in-services as requested by Nursing Home Administrator.
- Complete other duties as assigned, appropriate to the activity program.
- Ensures that an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies to perform daily tasks is maintained in the utility/janitorial closets.
- Keep supervisor informed of supply needs.
- Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc., to your supervisor as soon as practical.
- Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc., as necessary or directed.
- Clean work/supply carts, equipment, etc., as necessary or directed.
- Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
- Performs day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
- Empty and sanitize ash trays daily. (NOTE: Ash trays must be emptied into appropriate metal containers with self-closing cover devices.)
- Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., resident rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed.
- Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
- Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
- Clean floors to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
- Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
- Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
- Clean hallways.
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
- Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
- Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and at end of the work day.
- Perform isolation cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection control procedures.
- Clean high touch areas daily. For example, the code box, nurse station, nursing phones, etc.
- Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must be able to work various/split shifts, weekends, snow days and holidays.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in housekeeping or cleaning role, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management position preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50-75 lbs. (pounds) to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of one-two feet.
- Physical ability to safely load and unload passengers.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Must have valid Driver's License and must be insurable.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates.
- State of Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and/or ABILITIES:
- Must be reliable and dependable.
- Ability to learn, train and follow instructions.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills required.
- Cheerfulness, positive attitude, patience, genuine liking and respect for elderly, physically and mentally challenged.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
