House Manager for a Private Family, New York City

Are you an experienced House Manager with exceptional organizational skills and a strong understanding of how a professionally run private residence should operate? An excellent opportunity is available to support an executive couple and oversee two well-established residences in New York City and The Hamptons.

This role is ideal for a poised, capable professional who brings structure, discretion, and sound judgment to household operations. The successful candidate understands the importance of systems, consistency, and maintaining high standards across multiple properties.

Candidates with a background in hospitality or formal service (including butlering) who have progressed into senior house management roles are strongly encouraged to apply.

Your Impact
As House Manager, you will oversee daily operations for both residences, lead the interior team, and serve as a trusted point of coordination for the principals. You will bring calm authority, warmth, operational oversight, and accountability to all aspects of household management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison for the Principals and Chief of Staff with the domestic team. Oversee, mentor, and support the interior staff, ensuring meticulous appearance standards (including uniforms) and fostering a collaborative environment through weekly meetings
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain comprehensive digital household manuals, including maintenance calendars, inventories of fine items (china, silver, linens), and the gift closet
  • Technical Oversight: Manage household technology, AV systems, and computer files, ensuring all warranty manuals and equipment logs are updated and accessible
  • High-End Housekeeping & Wardrobe: Apply expert knowledge of couture wardrobes, fine fabrics, and specialty surfaces. Lead seasonal rotations, holiday dcor installations, and partner hands-on with housekeepers for deep-cleaning projects
  • Events & Hospitality: Oversee residence events in coordination with the Chef. Manage guest databases (preferences, florals, and menus) and provide formal service during entertaining
  • Logistics & Admin: Manage household purchasing, deliveries, and vendor installations. Oversee petty cash and house credit card reconciliation with high accuracy
  • Personal Support: Assist with pet care (feeding/walks), florals, run errands, and handle phones/messages with professional discretion

  • Brings experience from a fine private home, luxury hotel, or formal service background
  • Is warm, intuitive, and dedicated to long-term service
  • Has excellent, verifiable references demonstrating reliability, integrity, and professionalism
  • Understands the intricacies of housekeeping and how to support and guide housekeepers to excellence
  • Is highly organized with a meticulous eye for detail and a true appreciation for order and beauty
  • Provides discreet, anticipatory service with kindness and care
  • Is comfortable with smart home technology, digital scheduling tools, and household manual management
  • Is flexible to travel between NYC and The Hamptons as needed
  • Respects and protects the principals' privacy at all times

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday in the off-season with flexibility for occasional weekends
  • 5 days per week in the summer season to include weekends

Compensation and Benefits

  • Total Salary: $250,000 to $350,000 based on experience
  • Excellent, comprehensive benefits package
