Position Summary
The Accounting Clerk supports the day-to-day financial operations for the Marriott Downtown Hartford by ensuring accurate processing of accounting transactions, maintaining financial records, and assisting with reporting and audit functions. This role requires strong attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospitality environment while delivering excellent internal customer service. This position reports to the Area Director of Finance + the Assistant Area Director of Finance.
Job Functions:
- Process accounts payable invoices and ensure timely payment to vendors
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Reviews and reconciles Daily Revenue Report and posts/tracks various adjustments to the Profitsword system.
- Prepares daily Cash deposits, reconcile cashier over/shorts and distribute a daily summary report.
- Research and respond to all credit card chargeback’s
- Assist guests with questions concerning charges on their credit card statements
- Monthly gift certificate reconciliation
- Post credit card payments from clients when appropriate
- Assist with accounts receivable billing, collections, and customer inquiries
- Post and balance daily revenue reports and financial transactions
- Audit cashier banks, deposits, and credit card transactions
- Prepare bank deposits and maintain accurate cash handling records
- Maintain organized accounting files and documentation in accordance with company and Marriott standards
- Assist with month-end closing procedures and financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with Marriott policies, internal controls, and accounting procedures
- Respond to inquiries from department managers and team members regarding financial matters
- Perform additional administrative and accounting duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in accounting, finance, or business preferred
- Previous hotel accounting or hospitality experience preferred
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles and financial practices
- Experience with hotel systems such as PMS, CI/TYs preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must have hands on experience with Microsoft Excel and be able to understand and write basic formulas (add/subtract/multiply/divide) and have effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Ability to use computers, calculators, and other office equipment regularly
