Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Inpatient Acute Pain Management (Tampa, FL)
Position Overview:
This Hospitalist role requires rounding and pain consult coverage in acute settings at local hospitals in Tampa, Florida. The advanced practitioner will work independently and collaboratively with the hospital staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to manage patients' acute pain needs and overall treatment plans.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform inpatient rounding and consults, specializing in pain management
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, evaluations, and documentation
Manage and adjust pain control regimens under the guidance of the attending physician
Respond to consult requests, follow-ups, and urgent pain-related issues
Collaborate with hospital staff, nursing, and other specialties to coordinate care
Maintain detailed and accurate medical records within the EMR
Ensure timely communication and hand-off reporting between care teams
Manage an average daily census of 25 30 patients
Order appropriate diagnostic tests and accurately interpret results
Order pain management interventions independently following training completion
Prepare prescription orders for controlled and non-controlled medications
Communicate and coordinate care with patients, families, and interdisciplinary medical teams
Triage patient, facility, and pharmacy calls/texts as needed
Serve as a clinical resource for collaborating medical teams
Participate in quality improvement initiatives that support organizational growth
Ensure compliance with all regulatory boards and agencies
Schedule:
Variable shift schedules available, including:
7-on / 7-off rotation.
Work Location: Local hospitals in Tampa, Florida
Qualifications:
Valid and unrestricted Florida APRN or PA-C license
DEA license with prescriptive authority (or eligibility)
Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute rounding experience required
Experience in pain management, hospitalist medicine, internal medicine, PM&R, or similar inpatient specialty preferred
Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Comfortable working across multiple facilities and interdisciplinary teams
