A Hospital Laboratory Director opportunity is available in Smyrna, TN, supporting a hospital-based rapid-response laboratory that is part of a network serving more than 250 acute and rehabilitation hospitals, physician practices, and surgery centers across multiple healthcare divisions.

The role. The Laboratory Director has full operational accountability for the hospital laboratory, overseeing staffing, compliance, financial performance, and service quality. The director ensures the department meets all regulatory and accreditation standards set by CAP, TJC, CLIA, FDA, and CMS, and manages the preparation of monthly operating reviews while monitoring resource utilization and addressing budget variances. A significant portion of the role involves building and developing a qualified team through structured hiring, competency assessment, coaching, and ongoing performance feedback. The director also drives department strategy, establishes and maintains policies and procedures with annual review cycles, and manages key vendor and supply-chain relationships. Open communication across the team is fostered through a formal communication plan and an environment where staff input is actively sought and incorporated into operational planning.

What we're looking for.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry required
  • Master's degree preferred
  • National certification as a Medical Technologist required
  • Active state laboratory license required (Tennessee licensure required for submission)
  • 3 or more years of progressive laboratory management experience in complex laboratory operations required
  • Demonstrated leadership experience required
  • Hospital clinical laboratory experience preferred
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination required in accordance with applicable local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (medical or religious exemptions considered)
