As a Behavioral Health RN, you'll do more than treat medical conditions—you'll build trusted relationships, support emotional well-being, and empower patients facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, dementia, and other behavioral health needs. Every visit is an opportunity to improve quality of life and make a lasting impact.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans.
- Provide skilled nursing care and case management in the home setting.
- Monitor patient progress and perform ongoing reassessments.
- Communicate patient status, assessment findings, and recommended interventions to physicians and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Manage medical and behavioral health conditions through evidence-based nursing interventions.
- Evaluate medication effectiveness, identify adverse reactions or contraindications, and educate patients on medication compliance.
- Administer IM medications as ordered.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral health or situational crises.
- Complete accurate, timely clinical documentation, including assessments, progress notes, and discharge documentation.
- Support patients and families with education, encouragement, and compassionate care throughout their treatment journey.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
- Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience that meets one of the following:
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing with at least 2 years of recent psychiatric/behavioral health experience, or
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) with at least 1 year of recent psychiatric/behavioral health experience, or
- Master's Degree in Psychiatric or Mental Health Nursing with at least 1 year of recent psychiatric/behavioral health experience.
- Experience may be in home health, acute psychiatric care, or outpatient behavioral health settings.
- Current CPR certification.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.
- Ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
- For agencies operating under Medicare Home Health Benefit with Palmetto as Fiscal Intermediary, candidates must meet applicable Behavioral Health Home Care Nurse approval requirements.
