Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Handle and move ducks in accordance with Duck Well-Being, Care, and Handling Guidelines; annual recertification is required.
- Collaborate with Live Production drivers to load ducks while consistently following department OAWs and Duck Well-Being, Care, and Handling Guidelines.
- Perform Holding House duties including:
- Unloading market-age duck trailers
- Handling fatigued ducks using totes and carts
- Moving ducks from barn to round room and from round room to belt
- Wash and sanitize market-age duck equipment as required.
- Report any observed irregularities—such as equipment malfunctions or poor air quality—to the supervisor or lead.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Candidate Requirements:
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions in English; bilingual proficiency is a plus.
- Candidates with prior poultry industry experience will be given strong consideration.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely handle and lift live poultry (up to 10 lbs.) with regular bending and twisting.
- Ability to moderately climb ladders.
- Self-reliant, independent, and able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow all policies and procedures, including safety, Duck Well-Being, and Biosecurity guidelines.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team across departments and organizational levels.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional in high-pressure or stressful situations while exercising sound judgment.
- Ability to resolve minor issues related to loading/unloading ducks and equipment operation within established guidelines and company policies.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Physical demands include heavy lifting, prolonged walking, bending, twisting, unloading trucks and trailers, and washing equipment using an industrial pressure-washing system.
- Exposure to chemicals such as disinfectants and solvents may occur.
- Weekend work may be required based on business needs.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
- Company-provided PPE includes, but is not limited to: non-slip footwear, bump cap, gloves, weather gear, hearing protection, and dust mask.
- One pair of non-slip footwear is provided within the first 60 days of employment. Upon completion of the orientation period, the employee will be enrolled in the footwear program.
- Completed their orientation period they will be placed on the footwear program.
