NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Duration

This position is funded for up 288 total hours.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Historic Architecture or related OR BA/BS Degree in Historic Architecture or related

  • Significant experience providing guidance on complex historic preservation issues that is professionally competent and in accordance with relevant laws, policies and standards; experience developing and executing multi-disciplinary projects focused on the study, documentation, assessment, treatment and monitoring of archeological sites and historic structures; knowledge of technical and science-based approaches to the documentation and treatment of archeological sites and historic structures; knowledge of traditional building techniques and materials. Architecture license is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, MS Outlook
  • Adobe CS (preferred, not required), AutoCAD (preferred, not required)
Duties:

Provide technical knowledge in support of unique planning, research, and monitoring projects.

  • Conduct inspections of historic structures in parks to assess their physical condition and determine likely causes of deterioration. Information to be delivered to parks in format of their choice (i.e. professional reports).   40%
  • Recommend treatment that will address deficiencies and help to assure the long-term preservation of the resource that will meet the Secretary of the Interior?s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties   40%
  • Provide mentorship to new and existing architecture professionals in the NPS.   10%
  • Other projects, reports or studies as identified by HACE.   10%

Other:
  • Overnight travel: As needed to determine project scope and requirements
  • Air travel anticipated: Occasional, 2-5 trips
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be provided on-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safety considerations (every site is different and will involve different safety precautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.
  • Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, face masks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that the enrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.
  • Physical requirements: Ability to work in varied and extreme environments, hike or walk in rugged terrain, and work in confined spaces. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
